Matthew 4:8-10 (NKJV) Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
When the devil starts to play Make-A-Deal, sirens should be going off inside of each one of us. He tempts Jesus with, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." If is not a guarantee. If alway has strings. If should flag in your mind that the person speaking is hiding something. They are not telling you everything you need to know to make a wise decision. They are trying to tell you just enough to get you to give them what they want. They are being deceptive. In the end, it will have cost you more than it cost them.
Can you recognize when the devil is playing Make-A-Deal? Think back to the last time you recognized when you were deceived? Did the devil offer you a deal, an if-then offer? This is how I learn to identify when when the devil or his demons are speaking to me. The only game they know how to play is Make-A-Deal. I have learned they never tell me what I need to know to make a wise and godly decision. They only tell me what I need to hear to take the deal.
When I have taken the bait and made the deal with the devil, I repent to God, but I take it a step further. I ask God to show me how and why I took the deal the devil was offering. God is so kind and gracious. He forgives me for my sin; however, He wants me to learn why I took the deal from the devil. He also wants me to know how I got myself into the deal with the devil. God will reveal why and how, because He wants me recognize how the devil gets to me. God wants me to be aware of why the devil can get me to take the deal he is offering. When I learn why and how I embraced the deal the devil offered then I can avoid it the next time.
Proverbs 3:5-7 (NKJV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
God desires for each one of us to depart from evil. When we trust the Lord and humble ourselves to seek the Lord, then we will walk the path the Lord has for us. We will not fall prey to the devil. We will not make a deal with the devil. We will walk on without him because we are walking with God. We are in His presence. We are feasting at His banqueting table and the enemy can do nothing but watch us.
Psalms 23:5 (NKJV) You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Father, I am so thankful You are always available. You are not too busy. You will hear me when I seek You. You will give me wisdom when I ask. You will lay a path that is good, perfect, and acceptable. I will humble myself. I will step back away from the devil. I will recognize when he offers me a deal. By Your strength, I will walk on by and leave him and his deal behind. I know You have good things for me. I know when life gets tough, You are with me. You are my God and I trust You. I will humble myself and seek You in Jesus' name amen.
