Warriors Arise: February 26, 2021
Daniel 5:13-16 (NKJV) Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king spoke, and said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives from Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you. 15 Now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not give the interpretation of the thing. 16 And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and explain enigmas. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.”
Listen, you do not want to snub God's favorite. Belshazzar talks to Daniel as if he is a nobody. I understand he is not royalty in Babylon; however, Daniel has proved to be extremely valuable to Belshazzar's family in the past. The king need his help, maybe Belshazzar was just making sure the people brought before him the right man. Especially since he didn't know him. There also, appears to be a challenge to Daniel when the king says, "I've heard you can...".
When someone has treated you with that kind of contempt you are challenged to continue to honor them. However, Daniel finds a way. While the king is asking Daniel if he is who everyone says he is, Daniel already knows about he writing on the wall, read the writing on the wall, and knows what it means.
We find in Daniel chapter 2, Daniel interprets a dream when he has not even heard the dream. Nebuchadnezzar is troubled by a dream. He wants his wisemen to tell him the interpretation without hearing the dream. They can't so he said he would kill all the wisemen. Daniel prays and asked to be taken to the king. Daniel tells Nebuchadnezzar the dream and its interpretation. That is pretty amazing! So cool to do great exploits with God (Daniel 11:32).
Daniel may very well know what has happened at the feast before he is summoned to give the interpretation of the writing on the wall. He may already know Belshazzar is not going to repent but he has to try. For the sake of Nebuchadnezzar and the mercy of God, Daniel has to try. Daniel is not concerned about the riches or the purple robe or being third in a nation. What does that matter if by morning the nation is no longer?
Daniel 5:17 (NKJV) Then Daniel answered, and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Daniel would rather the king humble himself than to receive the riches. It wasn't by Daniel's doing that the knew what the writing said. And He wasn't going to seek to promote himself for something God had given him. Daniel didn't earn it. Daniel listened to God and spoke as an ambassador for God.
Daniel gave the interpretation and the king gave Daniel the gold chain, the purple robe and made him third in the kingdom, a kingdom that would be no more. I can't imagine Daniel was happy in the least. I bet he went to his chambers feeling defeated but knowing he had done everything he could do. He desperately tried to share God's truth, hoping the king would humble himself before God. You still can't help but feel the defeat, knowing you did everything you knew to do, giving every opportunity possible. But if they won't listen. If they wouldn't grasp ahold of what you are sharing. If they won’t receive what you are telling them, it isn't your fault. You did your part. You shared the truth and the decision has to be left up to them.
Father, I ask for You to strengthen us to be bold like Daniel. I pray we would be in tune with You. I pray we would open our ears to hear what You are saying, recognizing what You have done, embracing the opportunities to share Your truth, Your love, Your way out of the mess that has been created. I ask for You to give us boldness to walk where You tell us to walk and say what you have given us to say. You desire for people to know the lies they have embraced and the sin they are trapped in will lead to their destruction. I ask for You to open up the heavens and pour out Your amazing love that breaks through the lies to set the captives free. I pray we would have Your heart for the people. I ask for Your words to be in the mouth of Your people and we would say exactly what You want said and do exactly what You have called us to do in Jesus' name amen!
