Warriors Arise: January 1, 2024
Matthew 6:9-12
In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
How many of us can't wait to get to the end of one year so we can have a fresh start, a clean slate? There is something about the end of one year and the beginning of the next in which we feel the door is closing on issues, conflicts, tragedies, traumas, and disappointments from the previous year. We are hoping they don't go with us into the next year. However, if they are not resolved, they aren't going away. The date on the calendar doesn't make them go away.
"Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors" is necessary no matter what time of the year. This is something I like to stay up-to-date on. Therefore, in the presence of Father, it has become a part of my closing process at the end of the night. If I need to ask God or others to forgive me or if I need to release others, I do it at that time. I may have to make a note to apologize and make things right at that time if others have gone to bed.
Many times I have to speak forgiveness out like Jesus, (I am not saying I am Jesus, I'm saying, I have learned from Jesus), "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Sometimes it is the only way I can get clean from the wrong that has been done to me. My mind is made free and I am not dwelling on what they did to me. Mostlikely, they have no idea how what they did or said affected me or at least I would like to think they don't realize it. I would like to believe they did it without the intention of hurting me. It helps me to not hold on to what they did that was so hurtful. This willingness to forgive, makes it easier to forgive them.
You and I do not have to wait until the next year to have breakthrough, restoration, restitution, justice, peace, or joy. You and I can have each one of these when we will take God with us and stay in His presence until there is a resolve, solution, healing, or empowerment to rise in Christ.
I am in anticipation of our drive back to Iowa through the night. God and I have a standing meeting when I drive. I intend to allow my Father in heaven take me back over this past year. There will times of celebration and sorrow. However, I am going to let Father go deeper. This particular night, I am going to lay my heart and mind open to Him.
There are things I do NOT want to take into 2024. I am going to ask Father to search me. I want to make sure if there are any unresolved issues, that I will receive His correction, directions and counsel for what to do now. I am going to allow Him to show me the situation from angles I hadn't seen while in the midst of it. I want there to be resolution through God's love and restoring power. Therefore, I will meet with Him. I trust Him. What He brings up in necessary for healing and growth. It may seem like rubbing alcohol on an open wound but there will be healing. The wound will not longer fester and I will be made whole.
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give me today my daily bread. I will meditate and feast upon Your word. It will become a part of my life. Forgive me for all I have wronged. I pray You would heal them from any damage I may have caused them mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually. I pray they will not be held back by what I have done or said. I pray they will forgive me. I forgive all who have wronged me. I forgive each one who took advantage of me. I release them. I will not hold them in contempt. I pray You would bless them with purity of heart. I pray they wouldn't harm another. I ask for Your goodness and restoring power to come and make them whole in Jesus' name amen.
