No One Wants the Consequences

Warriors Arise: April 24, 2021

Daniel 6:24 (NKJV) And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions—them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den.

Why is today's so difficult to write? I have started this a number of times. Then delete everything I typed. Can judgement be a display of love?

Some may think, "How terrible that the king killed these me who accused Daniel! Why did the king kill their children and their wives?" That seems extreme and heartless. I'm not sure we are looking at this from an accurate perspective. It really isn't about who he killed, it is about who he protected. The ones who set this evil plan in motion might do something even worse to the king. They could not be trusted. Even if the king had allowed them to live they would find a way to get revenge. If they were so jealous of Daniel, because he was legitimately more excellent than they; then how would they respond when they no longer have a position within the palace. What would they do to get back at Daniel or the king, because they were humiliated and now outcasts? They were not going to resign their position honorably.

These men had revealed their hearts. They were not for the king. They were not for the kingdom. They were for themselves. Their manipulating words would be no good and not advance them anymore. If they were this devious, this evil, then what would their children be. How would their wives respond? No one wants the consequences of their actions. No one wants to think they might get caught.

When envy has us in its snare, we are blinded. If we should happen to think there might be a slight chance that we get caught we might think we can talk our way out of it. We think people will be loyal to us. No one would tell on us. If we stick together, we can still make some form of the plan still work in our favor.

Those of us who may identify with Daniel's situation may think the cheaters always get away with cheating, the bullies always get away with their threats, and the liars can spin their words so the truth can't be heard. Even when they get caught, we are not sure we want there to be consequences. When we want the wrong made right but without any consequences the wrong behavior rarely changes. Behavior doesn't change, until it costs us something and see the need to change. Therefore, we remain the cheater, bully or liar. We convince ourselves that there will not be consequences if we get caught.

The enemy wants us to believe the lie. If we believe we will never get caught then we are more likely to be an instrument of death to the dreams in others, steal the position that was never ours to have, and destroy the name of one who actually has integrity. No one wants the consequences, but anyone who is a good leader, parent, coach, boss, has to implement consequences when the truth has been made known. Otherwise the situation only gets worse, not better.

  • For those who have had people cause death of a person's dreams, God's judgment is a form of restoration of their dreams.

  • For those who have had people steal their position, God's judgement is a form of restitution of their destiny.

  • For those who have had people destroy their integrity, God's judgment is a form of redemption of their character.

Daniel dreamed of returning to Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day for God to remember His word, 70 years and they would return. Daniel was given the position over all the governors and satraps and they turned on him, coveting the position he was given. Daniel's integrity was in question, his loyalty to the king; however, God redeemed Daniel and revealed the truth. No one wants the consequences; but to be righteous in all His ways, God must demonstrate His faithfulness to His people as the Just Judge. By this, He demonstrates His love to protect us, restore our dreams, bring restitution of our destiny, and redeem our character. God's love will motivate Him to act on our behalf, to judge in truth and deliver consequences when necessary.

Father, You are the Just Judge. You always know what is best. I put my trust in You. You desire to protect me. You restore the dreams You have placed inside of me. You are my Rock and my Salvation. In You there is no wrong. You are the One who restores my name and redeems my integrity. You demonstrate Your love toward me every time You step in and rule in truth. You will make sure justice prevails. I do not have to take vengeance upon anyone for the wrong they have done to me. Your Word says vengeance in Yours. As You judge in righteousness, justice will take place. Your love will not only protect me but redeem all that was lost in Jesus' name amen.
