Warriors Arise: October 22, 2023
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet.
I remember COVID and the pandemic all too well. Thankfully, we came through it by the grace and goodness of God. We heard so many people say they lost their ability to taste food. This caused two things to happen:
People who lost their ability to taste will start eating a great deal more because they are wanting to satisfy the desirable pleasure of tasting what they are eating. The problem is that they can't taste and nothing they eat has the flavor they want so they eat more and more trying to satisfy their desire.
People will stop eating. They might have the mindset, "What's the use, I can't taste it anyway. There is no pleasure in it." The frustration causes them to give up, even in life.
How can we get taste restored. It has been three years since that dreadful time in our history. Many had their taste restored within a few months to six months to a year or more. Some say they have never had their taste restored. They wanted to be able to taste again.
Jesus is asking, "If salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?" It would take a miracle. Salt can't get isn't taste back once it has been lost. Jesus is teaching us to continue to be salty. He doesn't want us to become ineffective in our personal lives which is reflective in the advancement of God's kingdom.
We are to be world changers. Just like Jesus told His disciples. They were to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They were to be the salt of the earth. They had been given what people needed and wanted. People want flavoring. People want to taste and see that the Lord is good.
Just as Jesus commissioned His disciples, He also sends us, you and I. We are to be the salt of the earth. We have what everyone needs. Life will be enhanced when they receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit within them.
To be the salt of the earth, to know if you are still salty as yourself, "Who have I shared the Good News of Jesus Christ? How long has it been? Am I still salty?"
Father, I ask for You to come and stir within me. I pray for a miracle within me. I desire to be salty again. Open my eyes to see the people around me who need to hear about Jesus Christ. Give me courage to share with them. I pray for the words to say. I pray for compassion to flow from me. I pray for listening ears and wisdom to speak. I pray to be salty and share with the world Your love in Jesus' name amen.
