Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
Stick with me for the next couple of days. There is too much to this particular verse to share in one day.
Let's understand one major factor: being peacemaker is NOT for wimps. A peacemaker is someone who has strength deep within to know when not to engage.
A peacemaker knows when to use words and when silence is more powerful.
A peacemaker will remain silent when they know the other person doesn't understand what they are saying. You can't argue with ignorance. They aren't willing to learn.
A peacemaker will remain silent when they are confident in themselves and they do not need to put another down or prove they are right just to win.
A peacemaker will remain silent to allow God to be the teacher.
A peacemaker will remain silent when the issue at hand isn't worth losing a friendship, family member or job relationship. Sometimes right doesn't mean you are in the right.
We have all been wronged at some point in our life. This does not mean that we did anything wrong. We didn't deserve the wrong done to us. However, I don't have to receive the wrong done to me. I can offer peace and leave their mess right where they vomited.
I am not responsible for cleaning up their vomit, but sometimes we have to see them as sick. They ate something that cause them to vomit. They got bad news and it was more than they could handle. Their mind doesn't know how to get rid of it, so they projectile vomit on us.
If we could just see it that they got bad news which made them "sick" and they threw up on us, we need to walk away and go get cleaned up. We do not need to stay in the clothes that are now covered in their vomit.
If we are able to remain clean in our mind and spirit, we could help them clean up their mess. Think about someone who has an upset stomach. They try to run to the toilet to throw up but they do not make it there in time. No one likes to clean up someone else's vomit, but sometimes that is what we have to do as a peacemaker.
I didn't even like to clean up after my children threw up. I would try to get my husband to do it so I could help our child change or take a shower. They were too sick to clean up their mess. They were too young to clean up their vomit. They needed us to clean up them up and the vomit. A peacemaker has the strength to help someone get clean and a place of rest and then clean up the vomit they spewed.
Father, I ask to have the insight to see when someone verbally lashes out at me as projectile vomiting. I ask for Your protection to not take it personally. I want to be able to minister to them by helping them to a safe place of peace and where You can minister to their pain. I ask for You to remind me to see beyond what is coming out of their mouth. I want to see into their heart and give them compassion. I can clean up their mess without being affected by it or smelling like it. I can come away clean and unscathed in Jesus' name amen.
