Warriors Arise: November 20, 2020
1 Samuel 30:8b (NKJV) And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
That is a pretty serious answer. Straight to the point and packed with an enormous promise. What do you think the men were thinking when they heard the last phrase. Not only would that catch up to the Amalekites, but they would without fail recover all! That is serious! That means they haven't lost anyone yet. Their wives are ok. Their children are ok and everything else they owned is all ok. God wouldn't be able to tell them "you shall surely overtake" them if David and his men were not going to be able to find them. God would not be able to tell them they would "without fail recover all" if the Amalekites had killed or sold their wives, children, and other possessions.
This is why it is so important to stick around, be quiet, make sure your mind doesn't wander, so you can hear clearly what God will say to you. God desires to be that clear with each one of us. Many times we are not desperate enough for an answer. Other times we are so in the thick of it that we can't keep our mind settled or prevent ourselves from getting into a worse situation. David and his men were in a dark place. David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Keep in mind, his men wanted to kill him, right then, right there.
Psalms 23:4-6 (NKJV) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
In verse 4, we cannot allow fear to move us into the enemy's plan to emprison us. When we allow fear to imprison us, we struggle to remember God is with us. We forget God calls us to the table.
In verse 5, we see God actually prepares the table in the presence of our enemies. They have to watch God feeds us everything we need to be strengthen in His love and wisdom. The enemy has to watch God anoint our head with oil. Our head being anointed covers our mind and keeps the flies away. Another name of the father of lies is the lord of the flies. The oil flowing over our head keeps the enemy from tormenting our thoughts. When God anoints you, He is not chintzy. He pours so much oil that you are saturated with His protection. God makes sure you are completely covered, for your cup runs over.
Then in verse 6, is a promise of God's goodness and mercy with us every single day, "all of the days of my life." When we receive this protection, this amazing love from God our natural response will be, "And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." We do not need to run when the enemy is lurking around. We need to stay low and sit in the presence of God. As we are seated at His table the enemy cannot touch us. When it is time to get up from the table He anoints us with a protecting oil that keeps the lies of the enemy from causing us to act outside of God's plan for our lives.
God had given David and his men two important promises they could stand on, "Pursue and overtake them." This statement guarantees they will find the Amalekites. The second promise, "without fail recover all." Everyone would be ok. Everything they had would be returned, without fail. When God speaks a promise it is not a matter of if it will happen, it is a matter of when. Many times the when it will happen is dependent upon our willingness to pursue as He directs wholeheartedly.
David strengthened himself in the Lord. He did not poll his men. He did not listen to the news. He did not get wrapped up in his own thoughts. He asked God specific questions and waited for God's answer. I wonder how many have taken a seat at the table of CNN, NBC, ABC, gossip or opinion corners where they work causing fear to consume their thoughts. Causing their ears to yield to the lies of the enemy. How many heard what the news and others have said yet didn't even pull away from the consuming jargon to seat themselves at God's table, seek His counsel, and receive what He placed before them. If they sat at the table, in the presence of God did their mind wander over all the gossip, slander, and false news reports, meaning, were they looking away from the table or were they focused on God? When they got up did they allow God to anoint them with His protecting oil to keep the lies from penetrating to their mind. Fear is a liar. And we need to know God is not the author of confusion. God is the only One who can protect us and reveal the truth. Will you sit at His table? Will you focus your mind on Him? Will you allow Him to anoint you with oil?
Father, I place myself at Your table. I receive what You are putting before me. My mind is stayed on You. I will hear what You are saying and disregard what I have heard from others. I will not allow fear to get a foothold in my life. I will place myself in Your presence and receive from You. You are the Lord of my life. No one can calm my soul like You. Your Words to me bring security to my thoughts, strength to my heart, and direction to my will. Your love for me is astounding. Even though it appears that the valley of death is getting darker and longer I know You are with me. You will keep me safe and You will guide me through. I pray for those who are fighting COVID-19 to prevail in Jesus' name. I pray they would position themselves in Your presence and receive Your healing touch. I pray for Your arms to wrap around them and keep their mind set on Your promise. You are the God who delivers us from the snare of the enemy. I command the enemy to let go of my family and friends who have COVID-19. I bless their bodies to be restored better than they were before COVID-19 hit them. I command the mouth of the enemy to be shut in Jesus' name. I will not entertain his lies anymore. I bless the mind of each person infected with COVID-19 to be stayed on You. I ask for You to anoint their head and entire being with Your oil. I pray for protection from the lies of the media, gossip corners, and pot stirrers. I ask for You cleanse their mind from the lies, washing them completely. I bless their body to receive the fullness of health in Jesus' name amen.
