Warriors Arise: September 10, 2020
John 21:4-6 (NKJV) But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Children, have you any food?” They answered Him, “No.” 6 And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.
These men who were in the boat cast the net and they were not able to draw it in, because of the multitude of fish. I'm not sure if they rowed the boat into shallow water so some of them could jump out of the boat and lift from the opposite side of the net or if they just ran the boat up onto the shore. Let's think about this because this is a big deal. It is a miracle. When you have read this passage in the past did it register in your mind that there were two miracles.
Not only were there no fish all night long. Every time they cast the net and pulled it in they got nothing. Then morning came Jesus told them to cast the net on the right side of the boat and there were fish. That was the first miracle. There were fish! Who knows if they disciples even believed that there would be fish when they cast the net as Jesus had said. But there were so many fish these four professional fisherman and the rest of the disciples could not pull the net into the boat. The miracle was more than the disciples could handle, pulling in the net as professional fisherman, they were going to have to figure out another way to retain the overflow from the miracle. Jesus went over the top, above and beyond.
I'm not sure why they were in the boat fishing in the first place. If they were not distracted with returning to their former way of life; while they were on their way to the mountain Jesus had previously specified (according to Matthew 28:16), then they might have just been going fishing to feed themselves and make provision for the remainder of their travel. During their time with Jesus, He had even scolded them for always having an issue with food, wondering where it was going to come from. At that time, He had to remind them of the miracle of feeding the 5,000. Each time Jesus fed people there were leftovers, there was more than enough. One time the disciples had picked up 12 baskets of food and the other 10 baskets. Both times the Bible records that the people had eaten until they were full. Jesus went over the top, above and beyond. He knew how much people would eat. So why didn't He stop the miracle at that point? Why go over the top? What would be His point?
Maybe the overflow of the miracle was another way to demonstrate who was on the shore, who had told them when and where to cast their net. Another way to identify Jesus. Jesus went over the top when He released God's power. He astonished the leaders, caused the centurion to marvel, healed all the lepers even the ones who did not return to thank Him, spoke to the woman at the well and she led a revival for her town, delivered the demonic from 1,000 demons and he testified to 10 cities. Not one person left Jesus who did not get healed, delivered, or cleansed. Throughout Scripture there is no one who says Jesus was unable to heal them. Nowhere in Scripture does it say the demons were too strong. There is nothing that can stop the power of our God.
Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV) Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
Do you believe this verse? Read it again.
Some times we have to admit, I don't believe, help my unbelief. Because Ephesians 3:20 says God is able but His power is released through us. We can ask for what we think is the impossible. We can ask for the "all we ask or think" but it is going to be one according to the power that works in us. Does God's power work in you? If God's power works in you then you have the capability to release it into what you are asking of God.
Jesus told the disciples to cast their net on the right side and they received exceedingly abundantly above all that they could ask or think. It was more than they could pull into the boat. Jesus released the power of God within Him.
The problem may be in the fact that when Jesus does the miracle it is ok because He is God, but when others release the power of God to perform a miracle we are challenged with people saying that we are "full of ourselves" or in pride.
The reality is those people who are releasing the power of God within them are actually the ones who are full of power of God working in them. For them to stop the overflow of the power of God would be to sin against God. It is not wrong to allow the overflow of God's power within you to release into your prayers for others, your community, even yourself. Don't forget to pray for you.
Father, I ask for You to make known this principle in my life. You have put a power inside of me that I am to stir up and release. You are the God of the overflow. You answer our prayers exceedingly abundantly above all we can think or imagine, through Your power working through us. I ask for You to minister to my heart and mind. I want the full comprehension of this power You have put inside of me. I do not want to withhold your power to help others. I want to release it to bring healing and deliverance. I want to release it to bless others and cause their lives to be fruitful. Jesus saw the need and directed the disciples to where they would be fruitful. I ask for words that would encourage others to receive overflow, over the top blessing and miracle into their life. I petition You for the cure to COVID-19 to be released and made known all over the world. I lay out my request for the riots to stop in the name of Jesus. I ask for restoration to come and be paid for by the enemy's camp. I bless the eyes of people to see the truth and be set free from the lies that have kept them bound. I ask for world wide revival, every tribe, every tongue to profess the name of Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I ask for healing for my loved ones, the complete work of God to minister to every cell in their body. I pray for each one to receive from the hand of the Lord in Jesus' name amen.
