Exodus 19:10-13 (NKJV) Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. 11 And let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day the Lord will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12 You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves that you do not go up to the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 Not a hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with an arrow; whether man or beast, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come near the mountain.”
Consecrate, according to Strong's, is to be made clean or dedicated.
If you were told the Lord is coming to meet with you what would you do to prepare yourself? God gave Moses specific instructions, he was to consecrate the people and it was going to take two days. When I know that someone is coming over to visit, I may not have the house cleaned, that will depend on how much notice I have of their coming; but I will tidy up a bit. The longer I have the more I clean up. I can go to great lengths to clean up the house when I know I have a guest coming.
Here in this passage we see God letting Moses know that He was going to visit the people. They were to consecrate themselves. They were to be prepared for the meeting. Specifically they were to be consecrated. They were to make themselves clean, to be prepared to be dedicated to the Lord, as the Children of God. If you kew you were going to meet with God in three days, what would you do to prepare?
Why not take the time right now to begin to consecrate yourself to be prepared to meet with God in three days, on Tuesday. Think of what you would do around your home to prepare for a visitor. One who would at least be here all day but what about one that would be staying for a while?
Basic cleaning for the day visit, but one who would stay for a while you would wash sheets, set out towels, not just clean the bathroom toilet, floors, and sink but also the shower and tub. You wouldn't just wash the dishes, but you would put them away. You wouldn't just tidy up the pillows and throw blankets on the couches, but you would also dust, sweep and vacuum. You wouldn't just finish the leftovers but you would plan for some of the major meals while they were there. Now apply this to preparing your body, physically to meet God. How would you prepare your spirit to meet God? What would you do to consecrate your soul, your mind, will and emotions? Deep cleaning personally, how would you consecrate yourself?
Psalms 139:23-24 (NKJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
Would you place yourself before the Lord and allow the Spirit of God to lead you in consecrating yourself to be ready for meeting the Lord on Tuesday?
Idle thoughts
Fears
Anger
Jealousy
Malice
Judgement
Cursing yourself
Devaluing yourself
Hiding from your potential
The areas you are unwilling to surrender
Repenting for each time you didn't follow God's lead.
Repenting for being a pew-sitter instead of serving on the front lines.
Repenting for denying your gifts and talents.
Repenting for turning away from God's plan instead of toward it.
Repenting for walking past God-opportunities instead of seizing them.
Are you willing to prepare for meeting God?
Father, I am not ready to meet You. Yes, You are always with me but for this kind of a meeting, like the children of Israel were called to prepare for, I am not ready. I will take the next two days to position myself in Your presence and allow Your Spirit to guide me through consecration. I will quiet my mind before You and allow myself to really be searched by Your Spirit. I do not want any hidden sin or personal agenda that would work against Your will for my life. You are for me and I want to be prepared to meet with You. I come before You on a daily basis but I don't allow deep cleaning to happen. I have taken for granted Your grace and overlooked my shortcomings and sin. I ask for Your Spirit to point out what I need to remove from my life that would hinder from receiving all You would desire to give me when we meet in Jesus' name amen.
