Exodus 20:1-17 (NKJV) And God spoke all these words, saying: 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”
There is a reason why God did not want to be interrupted. He had something very important to tell Moses. He needed Moses' full attention. What He needed to share with Moses, he would be responsible for sharing with the children of Israel. God was giving the Children of Israel 10 boundaries that would lead them to a prosperous life, living in harmony with God's people and fulfilling their God-given purpose.
God was not mincing words. These were what His children would need to be prosperous, purposeful and at peace. When He waits on us, He has something important to say. If you have been having your God-time and God tells you to go deal with a situation know that His intention is for you to return. God has something He wants to share with You. He can see what is going on outside of the room, outside of your God-Bubble. He knows when the enemy is trying to stir the pot so there is an incident between siblings, an accident from carelessness or even sin crouching at the door. God sends you away to thwart the plans of the enemy but with the full intention of waiting for you to return. He has something important to tell you.
When God comes to meet with you, how well do you listen? Moses needed to listen clearly. God was speaking. He was giving Moses exactly what the people needed to be freed from their lives and mindsets of slavery and embrace their freedom so they would prosper, be at peace, and live out their God-given purpose. These are the things God desires to share with each one of us. Generally, when God speaks it will align with, strengthen our purpose, bring peace to a situation, relationships, or provide wisdom to prosper. God's love is absolutely amazing.
1 John 4:19 (NKJV) We love Him because He first loved us.
When we realize God's love for us, then when He speaks we honor what He has said. We see He has not imprisoned us by what He has said. He has opened the door to let us out of the prison we were in. He gives us the wisdom to be able to remain free, live at peace, prosper in what we do, and fulfill our purpose. God speaks to us because His love pours out from heaven upon our lives. He waits for us to return to Him and listen. When we listen, we trust. When we trust, we receive.
Father, Your love is amazing. You pour it out upon me because You want the very best for me. You do not withhold what will bring peace to my life. You give me understanding, so I can fulfill my purpose. You offer wisdom so I will prosper. I will meet with You. I will return to You. I will trust what You say because Your love is amazing. Come and speak with me in Jesus' name amen.
