Pursue and Overtake Them

Warriors Arise: November 17, 2020

1 Samuel 30:6-8 (NKJV) ...But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 7 Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. 8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?”

David asks two very important questions. David knows better than to go charging off with 600 men he trained for battle. He knows their capabilities. He knows since they are not thinking straight he will need to know God's plan before they start.

David not only asked enough questions to understand what God's plan was but he asked the right questions. As we live our lives with God, it is important that we keep clear communication. I have also noticed that the way I converse with others is reflective of how I talk with God. If I walk out of the room while someone is talking to me, then I am not not engaged in what they are saying. It really is a sense of arrogance. Either I think I know what they are going to say or I think what they are saying doesn't need my full attention. If we do this with people, how much more do we do this with God?

That seems absurd because who would presume to know what God is going to say? Who would think that we can get up and leave the room when God is talking to us as if what He says isn't really that important. Now, we don't necessarily leave the room when God is talking. It is much more discrete than that. We leave a conversation with God when we allow our mind to wander. Whether we presume to know where He is going in the conversation or dismiss what He is saying because we already know, it is rude and arrogant.

Isaiah 26:3-4 (NKJV) You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, For in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength.

David needed God's perfect peace. His men were angry, wanted to stone him and he was grieving as well. But he had enough sense to know he was not going to be able to talk them out of their anger nor was he going to be able to fight all of them. He needed God's perfect peace, his mind to be stayed on God. He had to trust God. This wasn't supposed to be his end. God had sent Samuel to prophesy that he would one day be king over all Israel, not just 600 men and their families. He was to be king of the country of Israel. He needed God to intervene. The men needed to know God had a plan.

David doesn't meet with the priest privately, he calls for the ephod in front of all the men. They would need to hear what God had to say. This is also a lesson for leaders. There are times when you privately seek the Lord and others, where the entire group you lead needs to hear what God is saying. Everyone needs to hear God.

David needed God's plan which is why he asked, "Shall I pursue this troop?" It is so important to keep our questions simple because it limits confusion in the answer. I can look back through my journals and see where I was asking one question after another, not waiting for God to answer the first 10 questions before I started the next 10. My mind was running down a rabbit trail to find what the outcome would be if God said to go in that particular direction. I had to learn to settle my mind. Wherever the questions stopped God would provide the answer for the next part of His plan.

David needed to know what to do. There was no doubt that they would find the Amalekites, but what to do once they found them, "Shall I overtake them?" When we get to where God is sending us we need to know what to do next. Many times we didn't ask this question therefore we don't know what to do when we get there.

God desires to lead us to victory in every area in our lives. It is so important to know you and I can trust God. He is almost too good of a listener because we can forget that being a good communicator is more than talking, it is being able to listen. God speaks His direction and encouragement to us, we only have to listen.

Father, I ask for You to come and speak to me. I want to ask the right questions. I want to put aside what I think and align my thinking with Yours. I pray I would be able to focus my mind on You. I pray I would keep my mind on what You are saying. I do not want to interrupt you or let my mind run so far ahead that I can't even remember the original question. I do not want to presume that I know what You are saying nor doing. I do not want to dismiss what You have said. I ask to receive wisdom and understanding. I ask for truth to be revealed. I pray to be a better communicator, especially listening and honoring others when they share. Father, I pray for clear comprehension of what You are saying. I thank you for leaders in our country who seek You. I pray for the president of the United States to the mayor of every town, to seek You and follow Your plans. We will not allow the enemy to destroy our homes. We will not allow the enemy to kill our dreams. We will not allow the enemy to steal our jobs. I pray for the truth to be made known in regard to the election process of 2020. I ask for all invalid ballots to be removed from the count. I ask for the ballot counters to be honest and efficient in their job. I ask for godly character to rise up in all those working in the 2020 election process. Come Holy Spirit and bring conviction to those who are trying to stand in the way of justice. I pray for the American people to want the truth and desire justice in the 2020 elections. Those who temporarily lost their election to pursue and receive all. We are asking for every ballot that was wrongfully submitted to be removed from the count. We pray for the votes of the American people to be recovered and not washed out by all the invalid ballots in Jesus' name. I rebuke COVID-19 in name of Jesus and release the cure and vaccine. I ask for their to be no negative side effects from the cure or the vaccine. I ask for our bodies to be made strong through defending ourselves from COVID-19. Jesus we turn to You to bring healing to our land, in the 2020 government election and in our physical bodies. In Your Name, Jesus, I pray amen.
