Warriors Arise: October 23, 2021
Luke 17:11-19 (NKJV) Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”
Can you picture these men up on the ridge of the mountian watching for Jesus? I wonder who tipped them off. Maybe a relative had said, "Watch closely every day, maybe Jesus will pass by here. He is in the area. He is near. I will pray He passes by, but you must watch." I imagine the family member giving specific details of what Jesus looked like and those who traveled with Him. Maybe this leper told his friends to come with him to help him watch. This reminds me of a parable Jesus told of 10 others who were to watch for the Bridegroom.
Matthew 25:1-6 (NKJV) “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’...
I wonder if the family member who told the leper of Jesus being in the area also heard this parable. How many people did the leper tell in their colony of Jesus' ability to cleanse and heal, deliver and raise the dead? How many did the leper try to get to go with him to watch for Jesus? How long had they been watching? Do you think over a period of time some lepers returned to the colony before Jesus passed by?
Matthew 25:7-13 (NKJV) Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
Do you think you would be faithful to wait and watch? How long? How many days?
Father, I ask for tenacity to endure through waiting for You to come. Even if You are not coming to me, but I see You headed to someone else. I pray I would be alert and have the courage to call to You. I pray I would seize the opportunity, the gift of You coming within distance of me. I ask for You to hear my cry and answer. I pray You would make a way to cleanse me, restore my body, soul and spirit, and return me to my calling. I ask to bring as many with me as would hear my testimony of Your faithfulness and love to cleanse and make each one of us whole. I pray I would have those who would stand with me, waiting and calling out for You to do the miraculous in our lives in Jesus' name amen.
