Warriors Arise: July 12, 2023
Matthew 3:16-17 (NKJV) When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
"The heavens were opened to Him," is a powerful verse. It reminds me of another verse.
Isaiah 64:1 (NKJV) Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence—
There are times that situations have been so messed up I prayed these words. I wanted God to rip the heavens and come to my rescue. There are times I have looked up to heaven, because something great happened and asked, "God, did you see that?" There are times when I think all we need is a visit from God. We need Him to make His presence known. I have prayed for Him to rip open the heavens and come. Those were desperate prayers where I needed to know He was still in control. I needed to know He would not allow things to go too far. I prayed for His presence to come. Deep within, I felt that if His presence were with us, among us, we would know what to do, have what we need, and the things that entangled us would be exposed.
God sees from heaven. He didn't need to open the heavens to see Jesus. He opened the heavens so Jesus could see Him.
God does not come to us because He needs to see us, He comes to us because we need to see Him. We need to know He saw us. We need to know He is there. We need to know He didn't miss the biggest decision we have made up to this point. God can see us from His throne in heaven. He comes to us so we can see Him just like He opened the heavens so Jesus could see Him.
Father, I never thoughts about why You opened the heavens. I am astonished by Your love. You know we need to see You. You know we need to feel Your presence. You come from Your throne to make sure I see You. There is such amazing strength that rises up within us when we know You are watching us. I pray I would be mindful of Your presence. I pray I would know You have come and made Yourself known not for Your sake, but for mine. I stand in awe of You. Your love is astonishing. You are for me and I worship You every day in Jesus' name amen.
