Matthew 6:9-13 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Before we dive into each verse, let's read through the entire prayer. Before google or any electronic map apps, there was an Atlas. How many of you remember having an Atlas? Growing up my dad had an Atlas in the car. Not only was he a coach, but he drove the bus. He took his team to all the games. If he had a game the next night that was somewhere he hadn't been, he would get his Atlas. He would locate where the game would be played, figure out how long it would take to get there then back up time to give his players, stat girls, and managers the time the bus was leaving.
He wanted his team to show up at just the right time. He didn't want to be too early where they lost momentum in game preparations. He wouldn't show up late, putting his players in a position to be knocked out of thier pregame routine. He had it calculated down to the second, just like he did his practices.
Jesus is laying out a map with this prayer. Let's look at the pray like it is taking us to an intended desitnation. It has an end result that will produce a victoirous outcome. Even though my dad is a hall fo fame coach for boy's basktball and girl's softball in the state of Iowa, there were plenty of losses along the way. On the contrary, when we recieve from, invest in, and prepare ourselves for where God is taking us by embracing all Jesus has packed into this prayer, we will be the victors when we arrive at the destination.
I encoaurge you to pray the Lord's prayer in it's entirety while we are studying it. There is a reason Jesus taught His disicples this specific prayer. Looking forward to the journey!
Father, I am looking forward to learning more about this particular prayer Jesus gave His disicples. He would have been thorough and precise. He would have given them the prayer that would be thier platform, the Rock upon which they would stand to fight the enemy. Teach me beyond what I already know about this prayer. Your Word is line upon line and precept upon precept. Your Word is living and active. I am seeking You for the next line, the next precept I need to apply to my life. I am ready the listen and apply in Jesus' name amen.
