Sensory Overload

Warriors Arise: March 6, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:2 (NKJV) And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.

As king, David, blessed the people in the name of the Lord. This day would be recorded for all of history. This day, the people, God's people reconciled with Him. This day, they rejoiced in celebration and brought back the ark of God to the midst of all His people. This day, they offered burnt offerings, to symbolize giving everything to God. This day, as they gave the peace offering, the Levites were restored to their position. This day, the overflow came. It did not end until David blessed the people in the name of the Lord.

The blessing is so important. God's people believed in the blessing of the Lord. I am surprised we do not know the blessing David spoke over and into the people. Since we do not know, I am guessing it was such a powerful climax to all the people had done that day.

Have you ever been at an event with the intention of taking notes, but they were speaking too fast and your hand needed to stop writing so your heart could receive what was said. I have been in a situation where everything I was writing was half sentences, because the next thing spoken was just as important. I didn't want to miss anything so I had all of these half sentences filling up the page. I realized I was getting nothing. This was one of those moments where I had to put the pen down and tell my spirit to absorb everything being said. I asked God to write what I needed from the message directly on heart and make it a part of my DNA. I put the pen down, watched like a sponge, and I absorbed what was being spoken.

I am guessing this event had everyone wide-eyed and their emotional sensors were at an all time high. Those who were there for the entire event were rung out. Then, after the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, David, their king, stands up and begins to speak a blessing over them. Sensory overload. They had poured out their praise to God all day over the hills and into the city for the entire day. They watched the preparation and the burning of the offerings. They had been pouring out to God in worship and now, this was their time to receive. All who remained, all who gathered, learned to worship God. Through this event they had the opportunity to learn how to put God in His place in their life, their heart, their mind, and their body. Can you remember an event like that? Can you remember when crowds of people were worshipping God and you felt it to your very core? It vibrated through your body, consumed your heart and was etched in your memories forever? This kind of event can be so overwhelming. We can say it was a sensory overload and some people will leave the room because they aren't understanding what is gong on, they do not have the capacity to take it all in, and find themselves headed to the bathroom or hallway or needing a breather. But for those who will stay in the moment and absorb more than they can hold will be transformed by the Holy Spirit. We allow God to do in us everything He desires. We do not step out of the refining fire or remove ourselves from the potter's wheel. We allow ourselves to be transformed in the presence of God.

Then David, the king, the one who orchestrated the return of the ark of God to the tabernacle, the one who initiated all of Israel to be a part of this monumental event, released a blessing and no one wrote it down. Why? I believe they were all on sensory overload and the only they could do was absorb what they were a part of. They couldn't write fast enough. There was too much going on and their mind was probably struggling to keep up with what they were seeing and personally experiencing. This was a moment in time for God's people. It was intimate and for their eyes and ears only. We never see David chastise anyone for not documenting the blessing he spoke. It wasn't about him; it was about God. It was about the overflow of God through David, pouring out upon His people. Those who came, had the opportunity to receive the delight of God toward His people.

Father, I am so grateful You desire to pour into my life. Many times it seems like too much. Many times I have no idea what to do, I can't keep up, so I position my heart, mind and body to receive from You. I desire to worship You with all of my heart, with all of my mind, with all of my body, and with all of my strength. I will worship You. I will honor You. It may be more than I can handle but I will overflow with the goodness of God because Your presence is with me and I release the fullness of the flow of the Spirit in my life in Jesus' name amen.
