Matthew 5:14-15 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house."
I do not know if you saw the moon last night, but it was full and beautiful! There was a very bright star below it. A friend of mine had the app on her phone to tell us what it was. It was too large and clear to be a star. We guessed it was a planet and it was! It was Jupiter. Even though it was so close to the moon, it was stunningly bright. The moon and Jupiter gave such astonishing light. They were attractive. It was almost mesmerizing.
The light of Christ within us has the same attractiveness as the moon and Jupiter. When someone is shining the light of Jesus Christ, it is attractive. We are mesmerized. We keep watching and waiting in anticipation for what they say.
You and I are to "give light to all in the house". Have you heard people say, "This world is a dark place"? They see the news, hear of the wars and conflicts, everything seems to be falling apart, and everyone seems to be at odds with someone else and it doesn't even have to be a logical disagreement. It seems today people argue just to argue. We seem to delight in conflict.
But God, has called us to give light to all in the house. We are to shine the light of Jesus Christ into conversations. We are to shine the light of Jesus Christ into conflicts. When we have nurtured the light Jesus is wanted us to shine, we will have people's attention. They will watch and be waiting with anticipation for what we are going to say.
When people see God's light shine from us, they will be drawn to investigate, just as I was curious about the bright star that was below the moon. It was so clear and bright, I had to know what it was. Upon investigation, I learned it was Jupiter.
People need to see us shine brightly. They need to be able to look closer and investigate. What makes us so incredibly stunning and shine so bright? It is Jesus. He is our light.
Father, I pray to be lit so brightly others are curious about my light. I want to shine brightly for You. I ask for You to burn strong and consistent inside of me. I pray the light is bright so others see You in me. I pray they would be drawn to You and see how to resolve conflict and restore relationships because they have Your light. They've been waiting and now they are to see because Jesus shines bright in me in Jesus' name amen.
