Six Steps

Warriors Arise: January 23, 2023

2 Samuel 6:12-13 (NKJV) So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. 13 And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep.

Some days are so incredibly difficult, it seems like taking six steps is more than I can handle. David is in great anticipation. He has wanted the ark in the City of David for a long time. His first attempt to transport it didn't go so well. I often wonder if David planned ahead and told the priest they would only be taking six steps and then stopping or if he shouted out "STOP!" and everyone came to a halt. What was it about six steps? Was he just so excited he couldn't contain his joy? Have you every been so excited for something to happen that you couldn't sleep the night before or you pressed through the night to get just to see that special someone?

I used to drive through the night, 12 hours straight to see my husband before we were married. I didn't want to waste any time. I would work a full shift, go home and change and head out on the road. Back then we didn't have cell phones, so he didn't know for sure when I would arrive. I would try to be early to surprise him. David was so excited to bring the ark of the Lord to his city, the City of David. He wanted the people of Israel to love the Lord as much as he did. He was celebrating with everything that was in him. He was giving glory and honor to God. He was not standing by being still and silent. This was not a time of quiet and somber. If it was, God overlooked it because David was like a child in a candy store. He was so excited he couldn't contain his joy. He stopped the entire procession after six steps!

I wonder with each step if David was remembering all God created, in the days of creation. On the sixth day, God created man. Did David have to stop the procession to worship God for creating man, for creating him? Is this where he started to understand God's plan from the beginning of time. Is this where Psalm 139 was inspired? Psalm 139 talks about things that are incredibly provoking. Do you believe what David wrote in Psalm 139? Do you believe that you are fearfully and wondrously made? David said in verse 14, "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows very well." I have to ask myself, if can I say that? David had God's view of him. Do I? Do you? Do you have God's view of you? Can you say to God, "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works and that my soul knows very well." His soul knows, his mind, will and emotions. They are in agreement with God's marvelous works in forming every part about him.

Are you glad God didn't stop creating on day 5? Are you glad God created you? Can you say to God, "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows very well"? Can you say it? Do you believe it? Do you believe it like David believed it? They took the sixth step and he stopped everyone and everything. All this man has been through and still he is alive. He is the one who is bringing the ark of the Lord back to the people. He is overwhelmed with gratitude and everyone needs to stop and celebrate God.

Father, I am not there. I am not in the place where my souls knows, receives that You have done a marvelous work when knitting me together in my mother's womb. I am not in a place to agree with being fearfully and wonderfully made. Today, I see with Your eyes. Today, I receive what You have said about me. Today, I step into who You created me to be. Today, I walk out what You created me to do. I will praise You for You have fearfully and wonderfully made me. My soul knows you have done a marvelous work in creating me. I will worship you with all that I am body, soul and spirit in Jesus' name amen.
