Warriors Arise: January 22, 2023
2 Samuel 6:12-15 (NKJV) Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. 13 And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep. 14 Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
Something shifted. Yes, the house of Obed-Edom was blessed and all that belonged to him. We do not know from Scripture if Abinadab's family were Levites. I have tried to follow the family lines. I do not find his name with the Levites. Abinadab was willing to house the ark of the Lord when the Philistines returned it. My concordance and cross-referencing tell me the line of Obed-Edom runs with the Levites. When the ark of the Lord left Abinadab's house it was on a cart pulled by cows. When the ark leaves Obed-Edom's house, the ark is being carried upon the Levites, the priests. This is how the ark was carried all those years in the desert. This is how the ark was transported battle. The ark of the Lord was not to be carted like a statue; it was to be carried by His people.
My study Bible makes a reference to this. "The presence of the Lord cannot be carried by or in things, but rests upon His people."
God is not to be carted around. He is to be carried upon His people. This is the shift. God didn't want to be brought back to His people being carted around and pulled by cows. If they had carried the ark this way from Abinadab's and crossed the threshing floor where the cows stumbled, yes, the Levites carrying the ark might have had a misstep, but it would have been one, not all.
1 Chronicles 15:14-15 (NKJV) So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel. 15 And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders, by its poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord.
This causes me to question how I carry God. Do I cart Him around like He is a good luck charm, my genie in a lamp? Or Does God rest upon me and I carry Him as my most prized possession?
Father, I come before You. Only You can answer this. Do I carry you around as if you were a burden, as if living for You is a chore to be done or a burden to be lugged from one place to the next? Do I carry you as a good luck charm or my genie in a lamp? I want to have You rest upon me. I want to carry You with strength and courage. I want to carry You as my prized possession. You have done so much for me. No matter how difficult things get in life, You make my yoke easy and my burden light. You are the one who lifts me up out of the muck and mire. There is no one like You. No one loves me like You do. No one cares for me more than You do. I will carry You with honor. It may seem prideful to those who do not know. I stand tall and with courage because of what You have done in my life. I will not act like I am less than what You created me to be, nor will I act cowardly when You have done so much for me. I am Your beloved and my heart's desire is to carry You well in Jesus' name amen.
