Warriors Arise: October 28, 2023
Matthew 5:14-16
Jesus is sharing very specific analogies of what we are to be like. We are to be salt of the earth. We are th light of the world. We are a city set on a hill and cannot be hidden. We are to light a lamp and let others see. We are to let our light shine before others so that stye may see out good works and give glory to God.
This verse is very challenging. I understand we need to be humble; however, we are not to be hiding. There is a difference. God needs us to be seen. If we continue to hide in the background how will others see Christ is us? How will they know to give God glory for the works we have done?
It is Jesus' command that we allow others to see what we are doing. I think of Cornelius in Acts chapter 10. He was a Gentile; however, he believed in God. Even though it had been taught that he would never be able to worship God with the Jews, he still did godly acts. He gave only to the widows and orphans. He also prayed. People knew him as a man who prayed to God.
He must not have done it in hiding because everyone knew Cornelius prayed every day and gave to the widows and orphans. He lived as a city on a hill. Others saw what he did. He was not in hiding. People gave God glory for the good things he did.
Evaluate yourself. No, we do not want to do things for the praise or accolades; however, we do not want to hide the God-things because our good acts will bring God glory. Do I do what I do to receive praise or do I do what I do for others to praise God?
Father, I pray for comprehension. I desire to know how to shine Your light. I desire to know what it would look like to be a city on a hill. I do not want to hide what I am doing when You have called me to be a light shining brightly in this dark world. I ask for courage to shine brightly. I pray for the people to see You and be drawn to You. I pray they would come to You and worship You in Jesus' name amen.
