Take a Seat

Warriors Arise, May 14th, 2020

In Psalm 23, there is a particular verse that comes to mind when I think about Job sitting down after the greatest devastation one could ever experience. We do not know how long he sat but it took a while for the news to get to his friends. When his friends arrive, they all sit for seven days and seven nights without saying a word (Job 2:11-13).

The verse in Psalm 23 empowers me to sit with God, to pray His kingdom come, in the name of Jesus. The verse removes fear and fills me with the faith I need to believe what God wants to release here on earth, in our lives.

"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;..." (Psalm 23:5a)

Why would God prepare a table in the presence of my enemies? It just goes to show that God can interrupt the enemy's plan any time He wants to. And trust me, God NEVER likes to see us being tormented by the devil. So, when we know God will answer us from the midst of the whirlwind, as He did for Job, we know God is ready to meet with anyone who will take a seat at His table. When we know God has already prepared a table for us in the presence of our enemies, we realize that God knew the enemy would be tormenting us; however God who is rich in mercy and abounds in love, desires us to take a seat at His table and feast on all that He has for us. God prepares a table right here, answers us out of the whirlwind. God invites us to sit with Him, while our enemies have to watch.

"In the presence of my enemies", in the midst of the whirlwind, God invites you and I to come sit at a table He has prepared for us. Not only does God speak to us from out of the whirlwind, as we learned yesterday from Job 28:1; but now we see in Psalm 23:5, God prepares a table in the midst of the whirlwind. God steps in, puts a halt to the enemy's threats and torments. God places what we need upon the table He has prepared for us. What is on the table?

Food, everything we are going to need to overtake the enemy, who has been haunting us with fear and tormenting us with isolation, telling us we had better back off, turn around or he will make things worse. But God prepares a table in the presence of my enemies. Do you understand what that means? I didn't make the connection on my own but through a Bible study I did by Beth Moore. While we are seated at the table, the enemy "has to" watch. The enemy is no longer in fellowship with God; he will never sit at the Lord's table again. But God sees the enemy attack us and prepares a table. This table is filled with every delicacy from Scripture you and I need in order to be empowered for victory. Eating at the table God has prepared for us is like eating the finest foods. They bring you joy, delight, excitement, wisdom, direction and strength.

Think of your favorite restaurant. You want to tell people about it and want them to experience the food and atmosphere. God prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies. But God gives you a choice. You and I have to make the choice to take a seat with God and to eat what He has placed before us. God will not force you. It has to be your choice. Job had come to the end of himself, he had nothing left. He took a seat.

When the enemy is hounding us, like he did Job, we have the ultimate opportunity to not only thwart the plans of the enemy, but we have the responsibility to remain seated at the table God has prepared before us. Feasting on all God has provided, celebrating with God, spending time with Him, secure in His love for us, and knowing that everything He put before us is good (Romans 12:1-2).

IF we remain seated in Christ with God, our Protector (the enemy can't touch us), and our Provider (everything we need is on the table). And that's not all. Check out the rest of the verse.

"...You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over." (Psalm 23:5b)

To be anointed means you have been given authority! How you choose to use the authority God has given you is your choice. Remember, love is a choice. We are thoroughly loved by God; therefore, we can choose to use our authority for good or evil. Of course, God wants us to receive His anointing and use the authority to walk in the fullness of His plans for us but we still have a choice. We can use that authority for our own devices and even to advance the enemy's plans.

When God anoints us, it delights Him in such a way that His cup runs over. He is so full of joy His heart is about to burst. Just like when you are so proud of your children you think, "Life couldn't get any better than this!" and your heart is overflowing with joy.

Warriors, as we pray today we want to take a seat at the table God has prepared for us.

Father, You are amazing. Not only do You answer out from the whirlwind but, You also prepare a table for me. You call me to sit at Your table to be nourished and strengthened. You have what I need to get out of the whirlwind, the chaos and devastation the enemy is causing in my life and the lives of those around the world. I ask for You to come and minister life to me. I ask for eyes to be opened so people can see You have prepared a table for them. I ask that they hear Your voice call them to Your table. Even though it may seem awkward, in the middle of the enemy's torment, lead them to the table You have prepared for them. You have exactly what they need. You have strength for the weak, riches for the poor, a way-out for the wandering, wisdom for the confused, peace to replace the chaos, and joy in knowing the enemy has no hold on them. I pray no one will walk by the table You have prepared. I ask for people all over the world to hear Your call out of the whirlwind, to see the table You have prepared, and come take a seat at the table. I ask for each one to nourish themselves with Your Word through the revelations You will share, that specifically speak to the whirlwind they are in. I ask for each one to drink deeply of Your wisdom and love. I ask for each one to be strengthen by what You offer. I pray they will be strengthened in their body, soul and spirit. Come Father, open their ears to hear You call from the whirlwind, open their eyes to see the table and give them courage to seat themselves with You, in Jesus' name amen.
