Matthew 4:8-10 (NKJV) Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
The one person you don't want taking you up an exceedingly high mountain would be the devil. He is liable to push you off. Jesus shows us that we do not need to give any fear space in our life. The enemy would like to take us out of our comfort zone. He would like to take us where we feel out-of-balance. We do not have to fear where the devil is going to take us, because we can trust the Holy Spirit. He will always be with us. Jesus had nothing to fear. He allowed the devil to take Him to the exceedingly high mountain. It didn't bother Jesus to be there.
It speaks volumes to me about what Jesus wanted us to know even when we do not have home field advantage, the power of God through the Word of God can defeat the devil. There are times when the enemy totally takes us out of our place of security and tempts us. It doesn't matter if we have home field advantage or not, we win. Jesus is our example. He did it. He was able to be taken to an exceedingly high place and still He stood His ground. It didn't matter where the devil took Him, He was giong to operated in the authority God had given Him. He would use His authority appropriately. He would not bow to the devil.
The more palces the devil took Jesus, the more places Jesus' domain spread. Jesus won in the wilderness. Jesus defeated the devil at the pinnacle of the temple and Jesus won at the exceedingly high mountain. Each time, Jesus took dominion over that particular temptation. All three of these temptations are things the devil still uses against you and I.
Jesus revealed He would not be lured to sin. He would stand His ground and take every inch of ground the enemy tried to tempt HIm. He didn't need to bow down to the devil to get dominion over all He could see. He resisted the devil's temptation and spoke the truth. Jesus would have all the devil was offering, not because He bowed down to the devil, but because He bowed down to God. Jesus submitted to God's will. Jesus was in full alignment with what God wanted.
The devil tries to offer to us what God is ready to give us if we will remain faithful to Him. I can attest to this multiple times in my life. There are things I would like to receive the easy way, or what seems like the easy way. The devil makes an offer and it sounds exactly what I want but then I remember God. I remember what He has said. I trust God's timing. I remain faithful to His perfect will. As I embrace His perfect will, I will receive exactly what He has promised.
Father, I lift Your name on high. You are worthy of my praise. Thank You for the reminder. I do not need the temptation the devil offers. The devil can't give what he hasn't won. I will not let him win. God, I ask for You to remind me what You have specifically promised me. I ask You to remind me the path You have for me. I ask for my focus to be on You. I trust You. I will walk according to Your plan and it will come to fruition in Jesus' name amen.
