Warriors Arise: April 28, 2024
Matthew 9:2 Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”
Second possibility:
Meditating on this has led me to focus on the power of forgiveness. Why would Jesus says, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are corvine you."? Why would He just say, "Rise and walk." It would have been fewer words. It would still restore his physical ability. Why did Jesus say, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."?
I have three thoughts on this:
First, the man had sinned terribly and everyone knew of his sin. They cursed him and condemned him because of his sinful behavior.
Second, the man sinned terribly and even though others could forgiven him, he could not forgive himself.
Have you been in a situation like that? You sinned and you felt the full weight of your sin? You held yourself prisoner. You punished yourself. You talked poorly toward yourself. If someone else had said the things to you that you say to yourself we would all agree that what you are saying is verbal abuse. Now you have little confidence, you might even have a chronic illness or disease. It could be linked to your not receiving the redemption Jesus died and rose to give you.
If the second scenario is true, this man felt the guilt and shame to the point of causing his paralysis. He couldn't forgive himself; therefore, even if Jesus had said for him to, "Rise and walk," he couldn't forgive himself in order to rise and walk.
How many times has God told us to do something, but we disqualify ourselves. We may say we do not have the skills. Since when was God concerned about our skills. He will trains us if that is what is needed. He wants our availability. He wants our, "Yes, I'll go and do...". He wants us to receive forgiveness for our sins once we have asked for it.
Repent, ask to be forgiven then receive the Father's forgiveness so you can rise up and walk in all God has for you. Stop verbally abusing yourself. Stop dwelling on your sin. Break free from that prison. Shake off the chains of guilt and shame. Run toward the Father and receive Your forgiveness.
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. You have set me free. Yes, I have sinned but I will not remain in my sin. I will cut break out of the guilt and shame of my sin. I will seek You and ask for be forgiven. You will empower me to make the changes I need to make in order to remain free. I wills top speaking poorly about me. I will not think less of me just to punish myself. I will be cleansed by Your forgiveness. I will be washed by Your Word. I will be restored by Your love. I will use my break out as a testimony to others so they can break free. I will speak kindly toward myself. I will rise up and walk because You say I am forgiven in Jesus' Name, amen.
