Warriors Arise: May 18, 2023
Matthew 1:19-24 (NKJV) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. 20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife
This always astounds me. Joseph responded so quickly. It also humbles me. How often does the Lord speak and I think, "I probably better pray about that," knowing I may never pray about it. If Holy Spirit doesn't remind me, I may never even give it a second thought. This provoked me to listen better and with the intent that when I know it is the Lord speaking to me, I need to give Him my full attention. I do not need to put Him off. If He has taken the time to speak to me then it probably isn't to chit-chat. It probably is because I need to hear what He is saying. I pray about way too many things to miss when the Lord is speaking to me. Even my time in prayer has changed. I have things I intend to pray; however, I also stil my mind so I can hear Him. God may want to respond right then. He may not have to even think about the answer. If that is the case, I don't want to keep talking or praying when He is ready to tell me the answer.
Joseph receives a dream and in the dream the angel of the Lord appears to him. When he wakes up he responds immediately to what he has heard from the angel of the Lord in his dream.
What if you and I responded as quickly as Joseph when God speaks?
How would life be different?
What would that do for your relationship with God?
Father, I am asking to hear clearly from You. Speak to me in dreams or throughout my day. Either way, I want to to respond quickly. I will to do exactly as You have said. I desire to hear clearly and respond quickly according to Your Word. I pray for my ears to be open to hear You. I pray for my eyes to see You. I pray for a readiness in my spirit. I pray there would be nothing in my mind hindering me from respond quickly. I know when I take the time to listen to everything You say and respond quickly the foundation of trust is strengthened. I want to be in a place in our relationship where I have placed all of my trust in You. I want to be secure in knowing Your voice and quick to walk out what You have said in Jesus' name amen.
