The 8th Day

Warriors Arise: January 1, 2022

Luke 2:21 (NKJV) And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.

Today is the 8th day since we celebrated the birth of Christ. There are so many things that are significant about this. It doesn't matter to me when you celebrate Jesus' birth, but that you have a day you celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ every year. This year I noticed something I had never recognized before.

When I celebrate Jesus' birth on December 25th that is 8 days until January 1st. January 1st is when I celebrate the new year, new beginnings, new possibilities, and getting rid of the things from the last year that won't be beneficial in the new year. I love the opportunity for new beginnings.

It is even better when I wake up on January 1st and there is a new layer of snow. As far as the eye can see, there are sparkles of diamonds from the rays of the sun hitting the crystals of snow. The air smells clean and fresh. A new year, a fresh new beginning, a cleansing of the earth. Within me, I feel the old has passed away and I am forgiven. I feel I can have a restart or a redo. It gives me hope to rise again (Prov 24:16).

On the 8th day, in Jewish culture, they took the baby boys to get their foreskin removed. There are several medical reasons why this was done. However, this year, I am learning something different. Eight days after celebrating Jesus' birth I will be looking to the Lord. I will be positioning myself in His presence. Physically, there is nothing wrong with my heart; but spiritually, I am willing to go before God and have Him examine everything the comes out of my heart.

Deuteronomy 30:6 (NKJV) And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.

As we begin our new year, does your heart need to be circumcised? Is there a flap of skin, of the flesh that needs to be removed, so your heart beats true to the will of God for your life?

Father, today I come before You and position my heart to be examined by You. I desire to have everything that does not line up with Your will for me to be removed. I seek You to be forgiven for the times I acted in my own desires rather than the desires You have placed within me. I yield to You and Your leading. Cut away from me everything that will prohibit me from production of good fruit for Your kingdom. You are my Lord, my Master, my Love. I desire to please You in all I say and do. I want to go forth into this new year with a clean fresh start of what You have for me. I pray I will not grow weary in doing what You have placed in my hands to do. I pray for strength, compassion, peace and joy to be upon me, within me, and drip out of me at all times in Jesus' name amen.
