The Audacity!

Warriors Arise: February 25, 2023

1 Chronicles 15:1 (NKJV) David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.

Yes, I want to circle back to this point. David built a house for himself but pitched a tent for God to dwell. I remember reading this years ago and thinking, "Wow! The audacity to build a house for himself and pitch a tent for God." That reveals my pauper's mindset. It was at a time I didn't understand the orphan spirit or what it was. An orphan spirit, is one who struggles to see themselves as truly a part of God's children. They see the love God has for all the other Christians, but not for themselves.

Many times you will see an orphan be embraced by loving parents. They give this orphan-child a good home, with love, provision, wonderful possibilities for their future and safety. But the orphan rejects their love and abuses all that has been provided for them. They put themselves in difficult situations, even possibly dangerous ones. They do not realize they do this, because they have not embraced the love of their adoptive parents. They are aren't sure if their adoptive parents really want them, so they internally sabotage the relationship. Isn't that how we are?

How many times have you placed yourself in a unsafe situation?

Why would you, if you truly believed God loved you? If you believe God loved you, there would be no test of Him having to rescue you from a situation you chose to be in.

Why would you waste resources and opportunities if you believed God had given these to you to prosper you? You waste it because you haven't embraced being God's child.

Why would you reject what God is calling you to do? Because you can't believe He was call you to something that special; therefore, you think you will be made a fool for dreaming so big.

There are so many reasons why we sabotage our relationship with God. Most of them point to the fact that we have not fully engaged and embraced being adopted by God. When we cannot engage and embrace being adopted by God, we have embraced an orphan spirit rather than sonship or being His daughter.

David had no problem with building his house. When his earthly father rejected him, God had met him. When his king had tried to kill him, God protected him. When his people sent him away, God provided for him. David made God his Father. David walked in sonship.

There was nothing wrong with David building himself a house. God is the one who anointed him. He would not be homeless like a shepherd on the hill with the sheep at night. Even though I believe God taught David how to lead through his experience as a shepherd, God would not have David living without a home like a shepherd.

There is much to understand about sonship and the orphan spirit. Arthur Burke, who established Plumbline Ministries, which is under Sapphire Ministries, if you want to know more, I recommend his material. He is very thorough. Go to his website.

Why would it be important to embrace being God's child, His son or His daughter? We will never see the love of our God, if we can't embrace Him as our Father. To embrace God as our Father, we have to leave behind the orphan mentality and embrace being His child. This is why so many struggle to believe and receive the promises of God. They are saved. They have the adoption papers, but they have not embraced being God's child. When we can't embrace being God's child, we are unable to receive the gifts God gives us. We will always think they have strings attached or will be taken away.

David knew God would not go back on His word. David would be king of Israel, as God had said and Samuel declared, through the anointing ceremony. David embraced sonship. He embraced being God's son. He would honor God as his Father. This is why things are so different for David. He was not arrogant. He was a child of God and embraced the destiny his Father had for him.

When you think about why there was was no one like David, before or after him, it is because God wasn't just someone to worship. He was someone to be in relationship with. David embraced the adoption and developed the Father-son relationship with God.Therefore, building a home was important, because it reflected what God had established and destined for David's life.

Father, forgive me for judging others who have, when it doesn't seem like I do. I pray to embrace the fullness of the adoption You offer me. I will not remain as an orphan. You have called me Your own. You have called me Your child. I will call You my Father. I will honor You with my life. I will listen to You and follow Your lead. I will receive what You have for me. Your love for me is amazing. It is more than I can comprehend; however, I stand in awe that You want me as Your child. I stand in awe of Your love and the purpose You have for me life. I stand in awe of Your provision for me. I stand in awe of the freedom You offer me. I am not a prisoner of this world or my past. I am Your child, walking in freedom, releasing Your authority over the dominion You have given me, and making way for others to be established as Your children. I will receive the provision You give me and walk in the fullness of all You have. You will establish my steps and my home in Jesus' name amen.
