The Bully

Warriors Arise: October 9, 2023

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers,

For they shall be called sons of God.

Sometimes there has to be a confrontation in order for peace to occur. For instance, if your child is being bullied, should the bully be allowed to continue to pick on, hurt or harm your child in order to "keep the peace"? I do not believe God would say for you to continue to be bullied.

David was anointed to be the next king of Israel. King Saul, the king before David, was extremely jealous of him. He tried to kill him on several occasions. He sent David out to fight the Philistines a number of times, hoping he would be killed. He tried twice to spear him to the wall. He pursued David on two different occasions to kill him. He had taken 3,000 warrior with him to make sure David did not slip past them.

David did not stick around for King Saul to throw another spear. He ran out of the room. David didn't turn himself in when King Saul was in pursuit of him. David alluded King Saul's threats and attacks. When he had the chance to kill King Saul, he refused. He was close enough to cut a piece of King Saul's robe. When he left the cave and returned to his men, David come out of the cave holding the cut piece of cloth. David gives us a good example of being a peacemaker.

David could have killed King Saul on a number of occasions, but he chose to remain clean before God. He chose to receive God's gift of the kingdom by responding as a peacemaker.

Waiting on God can be difficult but it isn't the end of the world.

Sometimes you may have the skill but God needs you to learn more about leadership.

Something you may have the leadership ability but you need to learn how to hear clearly from God.

Sometimes you may have heard clearly from God, but you needed to ask when to do it or how to do it.

Waiting doesn't mean no forever, it means keep refining your skills and the relationship God wants with you until the time comes for Him to lift you up and fulfill the promises He has spoken to you. For David, being a peacemaker means you are willing to trust God's timing.

Father, I desire to learn more about being a peacemaker. David didn't stir things up with King Saul, instead he made peace. He wouldn't be lured into a battle with Kind Saul. He steadied himself in God's plan and timing. I pray to be a peacemaker. I will make peace when others and what on Your timing. I will refine my listening to You of what to do, when to do it, and how You want it done. There is no need to engage with the bully when You give me a way out. David was not being cowardly, he was being a peacemaker. I will be a peacemaker in Jesus' name amen.
