Warriors Arise: May 19, 2023
Matthew 1:20-25 (NKJV) But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, 25 and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus.
God spoke to Joseph about naming of His Son. In the book of Revelation, we read God will give each one of us a white stone with our name on it. I have wondered many times what God calls me. I don't know that He has ever responded. However, I happen to like my name, so I am not looking for a new one. It wouldn't surprise me if my name was written on the white stone. I don't think I will be disappointed. Veridee means truth and Joy is my middle name. My mother used to call me by my first and middle name, even when I wasn't in trouble. I was young when I learned the meaning of my name. When I was told, it resonated within me. I am truth and I am joy; I am true joy. This does not mean that life was perfect. There have been so many struggles, disasters, wounds and painful situations; but God has been my source of strength, comfort and empowerment to rise up out of the yuck life has thrown my direction. There has always been something in me, knowing there is so much more than the drudge this world has to offer.
I am a seeker of truth and my kids know the worst thing you can do is lie to me. Any form of lying gets me bothered: manipulation, slander, backhanded compliments, etc. It takes all of the Jesus in me to keep my mouth shut, so I can pray about how to respond. I am also very optimistic and look for the good or joy in a situation and people. I continue to grow into my name, true joy, Veridee Joy.
A couple of months ago at the Overflow Conference, Holy Spirit shared a new revelation that launched me into a greater understanding of joy. It has totally rocked my world and brought such change into my life. It has set me free and filled me to overflowing with joy to give to others. Wether your name is Joy or not, you have been given the opportunity to have joy; because it is a fruit of Holy Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23. We are all to live by the truth of the Word of God. Even though your name is not Veridee Joy, you have access to true joy through God's Word.
What do most of us want? We want to be free. We want to be free from bondage, torment, and lies. The Son of God makes you free. The choice is yours. Do you want to be free? Do you want to be free from torment? Do you want to be free from bondage? Do you want to be free from lies?
John 8:31-36 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” 33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” 34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
The odd part about the argument, "We are Abraham's descendants," is that they say they are not in bondage to anyone, yet the Romans keep them in a form of bondage. They haven't governed themselves in over 600 years. How many of us have accepted the bondage we have been living in for so long that we do not even recognize Jesus has set us free. It is given to those who will abide in His word and life in the freedom He gave us. If you are living so deep in a lie that it is your truth, then when the truth is spoken you defend the lie you have believed.
They were calling Him Immanuel, which means God with us and they missed it. He was standing right in front of them. God was with them. He was standing right there talking with them and they missed Him. I don't want that to be me. When Jesus is speaking to me, I want to hear what He is saying. Instead of challenging what He is saying, I want to receive it into the depths of every thought, so my actions align with His. Jesus brings such freedom to EVERY area of our life. What area of freedom to you need? Do you believe Jesus has made a way for your to receive it?
Father, I come to You. I receive Your freedom. Your Word, by Your Son make me free. I pray I would receive the freedom Jesus has given to me. I pray I would live it out in my body, soul (mind, will and emotions) and in my spirit. You are my God and I want to represent You fully. I must live the freedom You have given me. I desire others to walk in this freedom. I pray the torment will be over ,because they have embraced the freedom Jesus has given. I pray the bondage ends in the name of Jesus. I pray for restoration in their mind and wholeness in their body in Jesus name amen.
