Daniel 10:10-21 (NKJV) Suddenly, a hand touched me, which made me tremble on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11 And he said to me, “O Daniel, man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” While he was speaking this word to me, I stood trembling. 12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.”15 When he had spoken such words to me, I turned my face toward the ground and became speechless. 16 And suddenly, one having the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke, saying to him who stood before me, “My lord, because of the vision my sorrows have overwhelmed me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For how can this servant of my lord talk with you, my lord? As for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in me.” 18 Then again, the one having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me. 19 And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!” So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
In verse 18, Daniel record being touched and strengthened, but then look at verse 19 again. And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!” So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” He was strengthened by the touch of God or the one sent by God with His authority and power, one Daniel refers to as "my lord". Daniel is not sure who it is but whoever it is he has human features, the one having the likeness of a man. As we continue with this series, The Touch of God, we are going to see where the touch Jesus, God the Son, strengthens, heals, delivers, gives hope, cleanses lepers and raises the dead and so does the spoken Word of Jesus, God the Son. Daniel is strengthened first by the touch of the one having the likeness of a man as well as when he spoke to Daniel, he was strengthened (vs. 19).
Have you experienced where someone spoke to you and what they said hit you like a ton of bricks or felt like the knocked the wind out of you? Have you felt uncontrollable emotion when someone speaks words of affirmation and something inside of you wells up, maybe even causes a tear that you wish would run down your cheek? Words touch us. Words can find their way into the deepest part of who we are. Words can restore our mind, bend a broken heart, and call us out of despair into the reality of the promises. Daniel was strengthened by the touch of the one having the likeness of a man but when he spoke it reached to his very soul, settled his mind, got him focused, and commissioned him for the assignment God had given him. Words are powerful. They can be used to cut people down and cause destruction to their dreams but words can also be used to call forth the destiny of a person and compel them to pursue all God has placed in their heart to do.
19 And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!”So when he spoke to me I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
Read the first part of verse 19 a different way:
O man (yes, you are human but with so much possibility, because God has revealed His plan and has called you, commissioned you to pray and keep praying. Know you were the one He selected because He will strengthen you.)
Greatly beloved (God doesn't just love you, His love for you overflows from heaven. Keep in mind God's perfect love for you casts out all fear.)
Fear not! (Yes, it will be horrific; you can't control it, but you can pray as God has directed. He has given You authority in this area. The enemy cannot get to you.)
Peace be to you (I give you peace that surpasses all understanding. You will walk through this knowing God hears you and will guide you through. Show everyone how to walk through this without being rattled but with fully assurance God knows what He is doing.)
Be Strong (This is your choice and is it the right choice. Choose to be strong. Do not give in to fear that undermines the very power of God's word. He will never leave you or forsake you.)
Yes (This is the right thing to believe. This is the right thing to do. Trust God and pray as He has directed. Let your yes be more prevalent than it has ever been before. Let your yes be yes to God. You have prayed what is on your heart now agree to pray what God has put in your heart.)
Be Strong (Sharpen both sides of the doubled edged sword. Be ready for battle, fight through your prayers as we fight hand-to-hand against these principalities of darkness. Your battle here, in prayer is just as important to the winning of this spiritual battle as our's is in the heavenlies.
Those words spoke to Daniel are a touch from God. They touched every cell in his being, restored his calling, and authorized him to join the battle through his prayers. They needed Daniel to pray for what was really going on in the heavenlies.
Father, sometimes I can get so wrapped up in something you have promised like Daniel praying for the release of his people becuase the 70 years were up. I ask for You forgiveness. There is nothing wrong in praying for what You have said or even what is on my heart; however, if there is ever a time You need me to pray for something else I ask to be an open vessel for You to pour Your desire for my prayer focus. I ask for You to reveal to me in a way I will realize you are calling and authorizing me to join You in battle through my prayers. I ask for be made aware of the prayers You want me to pray. I ask to seek Your heart on a matter. I ask to be open to listening. I ask for my ears to be open, my mind to be alert to Your voice and direction, and my heart to be receptive to Your touch so I can pray according to Your will in Jesus' name amen.
