The Touch of God, part 18

Warriors Arise: August 1, 2021

Mark 10:13-14 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

There really is nothing that can melt your heart like a child. I'm not saying they can't get on your last nerve at times, especially when they ask a question and you answer. Then they respond with, "Why Mommy?" You answer the why and they ask again, "Why Mommy?" You answer that why only to be confronted with, "Why Mommy?" So now you carefully chose your words so you explain it in a way they can't ask why. How many of you have been there?

Children are a blessing from the Lord. When they are brought up in the ways of the Lord they are a reward to their mother, they can be crafted into an arrow skillfully used to take out the enemy, bring joy to their father, and unafraid to speak boldly with their enemies in front of authorities.

Psalms 127:3-5 (NKJV)

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,

The fruit of the womb is a reward.

4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,

So are the children of one's youth.

5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them;

They shall not be ashamed,

But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

In Mark 10:13, parents are bringing their children to Jesus. Maybe there is nothing wrong with them, so the disciples think Jesus needs to spend His time with people who "need" Him. Maybe they have seen these children before and they don't believe they will respect Jesus. Maybe they have lost their focus. They are not to keep people from Jesus; they are to serve the people who come to Jesus. They are not to decide who Jesus spends His time with Him and who He doesn't. They are not the ones to determine who touches and blesses. They are not the ones to decide, if the children will actually receive what Jesus could give them. We really do not know why the disciples wouldn't allow the children to go to Jesus. However, their decision did not agree with the heart of what Jesus was doing. They missed His purpose. He was there for the people.

John 3:17 (NKJV) For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Jesus did not come to Earth to condemn the world and that includes the children. Jesus came into this world "That none should perish" (2 Peter 3:9).

These parents brought their children, so Jesus could touch them. Jews believe strongly in the power of touch. They believe in the power of blessing. They saw the importance of having Jesus touch their children. They knew their lives would be marked for the rest of their life. They knew whatever Jesus spoke, would come to pass. They knew their child would be blessed. There was no shame in asking for their children to see Jesus and if He blesses them. The parents were doing the right thing by bringing their children to Jesus. Are you bringing your children and grandchildren to Jesus?

Father, I ask for You give us to strength to be more concerned about our children and grandchild knowing You, being touched by You than being known as the "cool" mom/dad or being their favorite grandparent. I ask for strength to speak Godly principles to our children and grandchildren. I ask for our hearts to be more concerned with how they view God than how they view us. I ask for Your lovingkindness to pour out upon parents all over the world. I ask for each one to receive encouragement from You to take their children to You, to seek You out in order for You to touch their children. I pray each parent will take their children to Jesus until each children puts You first in their life and serves faithfully in a bible-believing church. Come and give each parent courage to bring their children to You when the rest of the world tells them to let their child make the decision as to whether they will go to church or not that Sunday. Ip pray for each parent and grandparent to actively make You a permanent meeting int heir schedule. I pray parents and children will worship You in spirit and in truth in Jesus' name amen.
