The Touch of God, part 19

Warriors Arise: August 2, 2021

Mark 10:13 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them.

Word has spread about all Jesus has done for all who come to Him. No one is turned away, all are healed, delivered, cleansed and some are even raised from the dead, such as Tabitha. He spoke of love and not condemnation. He spoke of righteousness and walked it out among the people. He restored the broken and released hope. Why wouldn’t a parent what their child to be touched by Jesus?

This man, Jesus, had done nothing but good to the people He taught solid truths that promoted honor, respect, love, and strength. He revealed the lie and shared of God’s amazing love. Most parents want their child to have opportunities to meet people, shake hands with and even get pictures with potential role models, people they look up too. Even if the person isn’t real. So, why would we think it would be any different back then.

Have you taken your children to Disney? They have lines to meet and greet Mickey Mouse at every section in the park. Mickey isn’t even real. We stand in line with our children to get pictures with Mickey Mouse, give hugs and take pictures of the occasion so we can remember. We will take through line after line to do the same thing with story book characters such as Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Fairy Godmother, step mother and her two dreadful daughters. For our sons, we may take them to Jack Sparrow, Gaston, and Prince Charming. They have nothing to offer our children, but we will stand in line for hours so they get a touch from pretend characters. We will have a picture to remind them of their experience.

There is no reason to be hard on the the parents back in Bible time who wanted Jesus to touch their child. Especially when we are talking about a culture who believes in the power of touch to pass the blessing. They wanted their children to be touched by Jesus because they believed Him to be a man of influence, power, and an excellent role model for their children. Jesus is real. He isn’t a character from a story book. I would be taking my children to see Jesus and hope that He would call their name or lay His hands on them to bless them. I totally would have my camera out taking pictures of this historic event.

Genesis 48:14-20 (NKJV) Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh's head, guiding his hands knowingly, for Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 And he blessed Joseph, and said: “God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, The God who has fed me all my life long to this day, 16 The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, And the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac;And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.” 17 Now when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him; so he took hold of his father's hand to remove it from Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.” 19 But his father refused and said, “I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations.” 20 So he blessed them that day, saying, “By you Israel will bless, saying, ‘May God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh!’ ” And thus he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

Jacob blessed his grandsons, the sons of Joseph. He prophesied over their future. Joseph was not happy because the younger son got the greater blessing, because Jacob put his right hand upon him. Not only was the laying on of hands important, but where the one speaking the blessing placed his right hand or left hand mattered.

Numbers 27:18 (NKJV) And the Lord said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;

The Lord told Moses to commission Joshua to be the next leader of the children of Israel. To do so, Moses was to lay hands upon Joshua. This is a significant event since it would transfer the blessing and favor upon Moses’ life to Joshua.

Luke 13:13 (NKJV) And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Jesus laid hands of her and she was healed. Power is released from Jesus to the girl when Jesus lays His hands upon her.

1 Timothy 4:14 (NKJV ) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.

The children of Israel continue to practice the calling out of one’s destiny and issuing their authority through the laying on of hands.

The parents of the children who were wanting to spend time with Jesus want their children to receive a blessing at the very least, but maybe a transfer of authority and power in their wildest imagination. When Jesus died and rose from the grave, the power He carried is now available for each believer to activate and operate in their gifting to advance His kingdom.

Father, I ask for You to touch each one of my children. I pray they would enter into Your presence with boldness. I pray they would seek You and find You. I pray for each one to draw near to You and develop a solid relationship with You. I ask for each one to know their calling and embrace their gifting. I pray they would develop clear communication and seek You for wisdom and understanding. I pray they would know You are always with them and that Your love reaches to the depths of every valley and strengthens them to wall to the top of the mountain. I ask for You to come and touch my children in Jesus’ name amen.
