Mark 10:13-14 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
I really do not like it when someone is upset with me, and I am sure most of you are the same way. The disciples must have had their reason for not wanting Jesus to be bothered with the children and there may have not been anything wrong with their reasoning. Were they were out-of-line, is it that they were making the decision with their mind and not with their heart. They did not have the Father's interest in the matter.
We get into trouble with our thinking when what is before us, the decision we have to make does not pass through our heart seeking God's direction. The disciples were still learning; therefore Jesus had to continue to teach them. When He sees that they are not making decisions based on the Father's instructions then He has to step in and train them.
Mark 8:31-33 (NKJV) And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. 33 But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Just a few chapters earlier, Mark shares how Peter was rebuked by Jesus; because He was making a decision based on what He thought, and not upon God's plan. I don't know anybody who likes to be rebuked or wants Jesus displeased with them but it happens. It happens when we make decisions that are outside of God's will, when we are not seeking God to direction our path, give us instruction, and lead us.
Out of God's love for us, He has to correct our wrong thinking.
Out of God's love for us, He has to rebuke us when our views are stubborn, even to the point of trying to correct God and alter His plans.
Out of God's love for us, He takes the time to teach us accuracy of His amazing ways that baffle our mind and begin to reveal the mystery of his love for us.
Jesus is displeased with His disciples; therefore, He will step in and correct His disciples on the spot. It could be offensive, but people's lives are in the balance. He must defend the innocent and the weak. He must defend those who cannot speak for themselves. He must step in, because He saw what was going on. He must say something, because the children are important to His Father.
Father, You are amazing in all of Your ways. As a leader in Your church, I don't care for the rebuke You give me at times. But I know You are right in all of Your ways. I know You will teach of Your amazing love. You will lead me into all truth. You have called me to give to others what You have given to me. You chose me and I will choose them. You have found a place for me and I will help them find a place to serve in the advancement of Your kingdom. You accepted all who came to You and I will receive all You send to me. I will find a way to love those You have brought to me in Jesus' name amen.
