The Touch of God, part 24

Warriors Arise: August 7, 2021

Mark 10:13-14 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

Any idea what, for of such is the kingdom of God, refers to? What is the kingdom of God?

  • Children?

  • Being able to come into the presence of Jesus?

  • No one preventing you from coming into the presence of Jesus?

The words for of such cause me to think, ask questions, desire an answer from God for explanation. It could be as simple as seeing children as a blessing and desired by God. Or having a heart to receive children, wanting to teach, train and admonish each one in the ways of God. It could be referring to God denying no one access to Himself. Men, women and children are all encouraged to come into the presence of God boldly, relating, and receiving a touch from God.

Cross referencing verse 14 takes us to Matthew 18. This is peculiar because the disciples are asking Jesus about who is the greatest in the kingdom.

Matthew 18:1-5 (NKJV ) At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.

There must be a way as adults to become as a child.

A child is teachable.

A child wants to imitate those they admire.

A children will imitate those they respect.

A child wants to nurture others as they have been loved.

A child wants to give and do for others as they have been given into.

Think of a child, newborn to 5 years old. A newborn will try to laugh, because they hear someone laughing. A one year old learns the dangerous ability to walk, because they trust. A two year old will start to play with pots and pans because they see their parents fixing supper. A three year old will pick up a ball and try to play catch, because it is something they can do with their parents or siblings. A four year old will climb onto a wobbly bicycle because they believe this will be fun. A five year old will carry tools for their parent to fix something that is broken.

A child is constantly learning, trust, trying things that are scary such as walking or riding a wobbly bicycle. These are very similar to learning from God's word, trusting what God says, and walking in faith to fulfill our destiny.

For of such is the kingdom of God, speaks to our childlike approach to our relationship with God, knowing we can boldly approach God any time, any day.

Father, You are wonderful in all of Your ways. There are times when all I need to do is to look to You, listen to Your voice and trust what You are saying. I position myself with open ears to hear Your voice, with eyes to see what You are doing, and a willing heart to join You. I want to work along side of You. It might be scary to do what You are encouraging me to do, just like a four year old climbing onto a wobbly bicycle but I will because I trust You. I will keep my heart tender, teachable, and willing to join You in what You are doing in Jesus name amen.
