The Touch of God, part 26

Warriors Arise: August 9, 2021

Mark 10:13-16 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

Jesus took them up in His arms! Why is that so important? He was not afraid to touch them. He wanted the children to fell the warmth of His embrace and the love of God pouring out of Him and into their being. He wanted them around. He wanted them to be a part. He wanted them to feel welcomed. He wanted them to know they were valuable to Him. Think about what is expressed to a child when an adult welcomes them up into their arms?

Some people are natural huggers and others can seem like a porcupine. Which do you think Jesus was when He walked the earth? The woman with the issue of blood touched Jesus and virtue came out of Him. Jesus walked with an overflow of love and compassion. It reminds me of when Aaron was anointed as the priest for the children of Israel. A horn of oil would be poured over a person to announce they were the anointed ones of the Lord. The oil would flow over their head, down their beard, over their clothes and dripping on their feet. It wasn't a dab of oil. It was a horn of oil. An anointing meant they were consecrated to fulfill a purpose. Jesus oozed with wholehearted love for all people, especially the children. He forbid them to be withheld from His presence. He opened His arms and welcomed them. He allowed virtue to be drawn out of Him to fill them up with the Father's love, purpose and destiny. Jesus reads the following passage in the temple so all would know His purpose, where His power came from and what He was there to do. His arms were open wide to pour like oil into the souls of these children.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV)

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me

To preach good tidings to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,

And the day of vengeance of our God;

To comfort all who mourn,

3 To console those who mourn in Zion,

To give them beauty for ashes,

The oil of joy for mourning,

The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

That they may be called trees of righteousness,

The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Jesus knew what He was on earth to do. Nothing would distract Him. He wanted to reveal the Father's love for all people, in person. He loved people right where they were, in their sin, no matter the age, no matter the need or where they came form. He loved the people; therefore He received them and poured His love over them like oil.

Psalms 23:5 (NKJV)

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;

You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

Jesus knew the enemy was watching, seeing all the people He was revealing God's love to.

  • He prepared tables in the temple and taught of the Father's love and acceptance as God would accept a widow's mite.

  • He prepared tables on the hillside and demonstrated God's provision. People received the overflow of the oil as basket after basket of fish and loaves were distributed through out the 5,000 people.

  • He prepared tables in the midst of the tempest on the Sea of Galilee. The oil overflowed and the seas became calm and at peace.

  • He prepared tables at the well. A woman came then touched by the overflow of Jesus' love shared with the entire city.

In each place, Jesus spread oven His arms and received people where they were and met their need with more than enough, with an overflow of oil.

When you enter into the secret place to meet with the Father, His arms are open wide and He welcomes you to come sit on His lap. He wanted to pour over you His love, the oil of gladness and peace. The oil that gives you authority to do what He has called you to do. He wants you to be dripping with His love so when you come into contact with others they are touched with His love.

Father, I come into Your presence. I didn't realize You were holding Your arms open for me to come running into them. There are so many times I needed let You hold me. I needed to know You wanted to embrace me. You wanted to pour oil over me. You wanted me to know peace. You wanted me to receive Your touch of love. You wanted me to know the love You have always had for me. You have wanted me to come fully into Your presence, sitting on Your lap and being embraced by Your strong arms. In that embrace You pour over me love, peace, and authority to fulfill what You have called me to do. Today, I come before not to stand in front of You but sit on Your lap and know I am fully and completely loved by You in Jesus' name amen.
