The Touch of God, part 29

Warriors Arise: August 12, 2021

Mark 10:13-16 (NKJV) Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15 Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” 16 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.

Jesus defended the children.

Jesus took the children up in His arms.

Jesus laid hands on the children.

Jesus blessed the children.

Do you realize all Jesus wants to do for you? He defends you. He opens His arms to you. He lays His hands upon you and He blesses you. We tend to think, "It's ok, we don't need all of that." The problem is, we are lacking a particular understanding of who God wants to be in our life. God wants to give us all of that.

Have you ever tried to give somebody something and they rejected what you were trying to give them? We do that all the time to God. He wants to defend us and we say, "Na, that's ok. I can tough if out." He wants to hold us; however, we respond, "I'm sure there are others who need it more than I do." He wants to lay His hands upon us, releasing virtue from the depth of His being to touch the broken in us and bring restoration; yet, we put a barrier between us and God letting Him know there is a line and He doesn't need to cross it. Then He speaks forth a blessing, but we reject it by saying, "That can't be for me. I don't deserve it." Blessings have nothing to do with whether you deserve it or not. Blessings are based upon your willingness to receive what the Father is giving you. Can you remember the last time someone tried to give you something and you told them, "Why did you get me that? I can get it myself." I wonder. If you respond that way to people, do you respond that way to God? Maybe you are not seeing God's involvement in your life because you have rejected so many things He has tried to give you, to hold you, to encourage you, to bless you with.

Jesus loves you.

  • We can believe the lie that Jesus doesn't want us around. But that couldn't be further from the truth. He wants you to come into His presence to be with Him. He wants to embrace you. He is not a distant god. He sees what is going on just like He saw when the disciples forbade the children from coming to Him. He is approachable.

  • We can believe the lie that Jesus doesn't want to embrace us but the truth is He desires to embrace you to bring healing and courage. His embrace can be to show you His delight in you or to bring healing for your hurt.

  • We can believe the lie and act like lepers, no one wants to touch us, not even God. But Jesus did not shy away from touching lepers. Even though the law said He would be unclean for 7 days. But when Jesus touched the leper, the untouchable, the leper became clean! That is the power of God's touch; we are made clean.

  • We can believe that God has nothing for us but hardship and trials but that couldn't be further from the truth. God desires to bring blessing into our lives. Jesus died and rose again so we could live life to the fullest, the abundant life. Abundant life can mean money, but it is so much more. The abundant life means security. I am not afraid of the afterlife because I know where I am going and it is going to be GOOD. The abundant life means joy. Sadness may come but joy comes in the morning! The abundant life means power. I can withstand the attacks of the enemy and rise to be the overcomer. I may get knocked down but I get back up because of Christ in me. The abundant life means peace. There is uncertainty in this world but my God gives me peace that surpasses all understanding I will not be sucked into anxiety leading to confusion or stress. The abundant life means having more than enough so I can give to others.

We can believe a lie that God doesn't want to have anything to do with us, let alone take the time to hold, embrace, or bless us. That couldn't be further from the truth. Mark 10:13-16 demonstrates God's abundant love for each one of us! What lie do you need to get rid of so you can enjoy the fullness of God's love poured out for you?

Father, I ask for You to come and bring clear understanding into my life. You are my God and there is no other. Thank you for defending me when others told me you were too busy or had better things to do. Thank you for calling me into Your presence. You did not leave me outside or in the distance. You called me into Your presence. Thank you for opening Your arms and pulling me in close. I needed to feel the strength and security Your arms provide. Thank you for laying Your hands upon me to release virtue into my life. I am not perfect but by the blood of Jesus Christ I am not who I used to be. I am being child-like, imitating You and Your ways. Thank You for blessing my life! Open my ears to hear You speak Your words of blessing over my life. I have strived day in and day out to make ends meet but Your words of blessing release me from the cursing of toiling at my work. You open up opportunities to me that no person can shut. You make a way for me when there seems like there is no way. You provide for me and I am blessed because Your words flow over me and saturate every cell in my body and overturn every lie I have believed. I will live in the freedom of Your love, by the power of Your touch and the courage connected with Your blessing in Jesus' name amen.
