The Touch of God, part 33

Warriors Arise: August 16, 2021

John 9:6-8 (NKJV) When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

I can't imagine this blindman. He has been rejected by society for years, probably decades. He has the boldness, most likely because of all the people he heard, to approach Jesus. He doesn't reach out to touch Him, but he positioned himself before the healer. He heard how everyone who has come to Jesus and touched Him were healed. Why doesn't he reach out and touch Jesus? Maybe He doesn't know which one is Jesus. But I think it is because of how he has been rejected over the years; he is unsure of how Jesus would respond if he touched Him. Will He strike at him? We all know He wouldn't, but not this blind man, How many times had he reached out for something and been beaten down?

This man stood before Jesus, can you picture the desperation on his face. The noticeable shiftiness of his body, while Jesus is making the paste of clay and spit. How about the flinch when Jesus touches the man's eyes with the clay? This man can't see. He has been rejected by society for years. Picture in your mind his reaction. Maybe when Jesus made the paste, the blind man reached for someone to lead him away. Jesus didn't say, "Your faith has healed you." He didn't extend His arm so the blindman could touch Him. Maybe this blind man didn't even know who was before him. Read the verse that preceded this even.

John 9:1-5 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

We do not know if the blind man even heard the disciples ask Jesus, "Who sinned?". Maybe this blind man didn't come to Jesus but this is a healing that happens in the command to "Go."

Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

The disciples had heard this command before. "Go" in this verse is an active go, it means as you are going. As you are going to the grocery store, "heal the sick, cast out demons, cleanse the lepers." As you are going to get gas, "make disciples." As you are going to your family reunion, "Be My witnesses." "Freely you have been given, freely you are to give".

Matthew 10:5-8 (NKJV) These twelve Jesus sent out and commanded them, saying... 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

As Jesus and the disciples were going, Jesus demonstrated how to be active in your faith and His power, as you are going. I have no idea if this blind man even knew who was before him. But by the touch of Jesus, God's Son, the man receives the clay on his eyes and does exactly what He said to do. Therefore, he receives his sight, So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

Father, I know there are times You come when I do not expect You. I am caught in my life, the bondages and routine, the chaos and the schedules. Then You show up. I don't even see You until my heart is put at ease, the anxiety in removed, and peace reigns within me. I know You passed by. I know You were with me. I know You reached out and touched my blinded eyes. You made me see, everything is going to be better than ok. You made clear the crocked path before me. You spoke to me, something I needed to do to receive the fullness of You touch, of Your command. I follow because Your peace empowered me to trust You. I will go wash in the water of one who has been sent by the Son. You are amazing in all of Your ways. Thank you for removing the blinders from my eyes. Thank You for speaking the command that settled the chaos. Thank You for healing me from within before I ever received my sight. You are my God and I will ever praise You in Jesus' name amen.
