Warriors Arise: August 17, 2021
John 9:6-12 (NKJV) When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” 9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” 12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
Right after his breakthrough.
Right after his healing.
Right after his life is handed back to him.
Right after he was humiliated walking through the streets with clay on his eyes.
Right after the greatest thing in his life took place, people wanted to dispute who had done it and what happened, even who he is.
It is totally like the enemy to come and kick you down when you just got your feet up under you, got your healing, breakthrough, and new possibilities for life. An area in your life you have struggled with, maybe all of your life, God touches you and bam! There are the accusers, the nay-sayers, and the ones questioning who you are.
These people are his neighbors and those who had previously known him as the blind man. Now they seem to be questioning him. Oddly, we don't even know if the man asked to be healed. This is the not blind man who called out to Jesus. This man was being talked about by the disciples. They wanted to know why he was blind.
John 9:1-5 (NKJV) Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Jesus decided to go ahead and heal the man. Why? That the works of God should be revealed in him. What if we embraced that understanding? If we lived in that understanding the struggle an individual has is so:
when they are healed, the works of God are revealed to them.
when they are living out their purpose, the works of God are revealed to them.
when they are free from disease, the works of God are revealed to them.
when they are cured, the works of God are revealed to them.
when they are reconciled, the works of God are revealed to them.
when they are financially restored, the works of God are revealed to them.
Right after the blind man's healing, the people begin to talk. They questioned who he was. They were not like the four friends of the paraplegic whose friends carried him on a pallet, hoisted him up on the roof, cut an opening in the roof and lowered him down in front of Jesus to be healed. This blind man might not have even known Jesus was passing by. But Jesus healed him to demonstrate to His disciples that He will heal him so the works of God are revealed to him. After the man was healed and the people started to question, he told them of Jesus and what He did. He knew God touched his life and restored his sight. He would glorify God. He would answer boldly. The works of God had been revealed to him and he would give glory, honor and praise to Jesus.
It doesn't matter if people believe you. It matters what you believe. Do you believe the works of God have been revealed to you? People are going to come and try to kick you, steal your dreams, disregard your breakthrough, feel it is their place to "cut you down to size", especially if they are not pursuing their dreams God has put inside of them. These neighbors, and people who have seen this blind man, they were not with him when Jesus put the clay on his eyes. They were not in pursuit of God. Their line of questioning doesn't even say that they are willing to believe Jesus can do what they are seeing with their own eyes, has clearly been done. The man they knew to be blind from birth is now seeing! People who are not in pursuit of God cannot see the works of God. Even though they have eyes and can see what has happened, because they are closed off to God they cannot see what has been revealed by God.
Matthew 13:11-17 (NKJV) He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ 16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
God touches so many people and desires for His works to be revealed to them. But there are so many who will deny the work of God in their life; because they refuse see with their eyes and hear with their ears. They are blinded to the works of God and deaf to the voice of God. We must be careful not to allow those who choose not to see God's works and not to hear God's voice, to steal our breakthrough, our healing, our cure, our restoration, our reconciliation.
Father, if my eyes are blinded by what You have done in another's life, I ask for You to touch my eyes. I will go wash the clay from my eyes and see You and all You have done in their life. I ask if I have turned a deaf ear to Your voice that You would touch my ears and Your work be revealed to me. I want to believe for what You have done in another's life. I also want to receive and hold on to what You have done in my life. I praise You for my breakthrough. I worship You for healing me. I shout our Your name for the freedom You have given me. I will sing of Your goodness and dance upon the firm foundation You have placed beneath me. I will not be shaken by the nay-sayer. I will not question what You have done in my life because of the lies and accusations. I will not hide what You have done in my life. I will rise and testify of Your wondrous works in my life. I will celebrate the works You have done in others in Jesus' name amen.
