Warriors Arise: August 20, 2021
John 9:6-12 (NKJV) When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” 9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” 12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
There is something to be said about this man's obedience. I know our society today does not like the word obedience. Maybe one word is too concise, so we should say, "Do what you are told." I am in awe with this man's response. It is so simple to him. He trusted the Man who touched him and the voice that commanded him. There is no exclamation point after the command. It was a command, but I do not see where it is like a drill sergeant yelling commands. It is a command in the English grammar my kids learn. Jesus is telling the man what to do; therefore, it is a command.
We tend to hear God in the sense that we view God. It is why people can misinterpret what God is saying. I do not believe Jesus was yelling at this man when he is blind nor do I believe He was angry with this man when he was blind. It was a simple command that released power from heaven. I believe it was in the immediate obedience the man reveals he received something from the touch of God when Jesus put the clay on his eyes.
He didn't ask any questions.
He didn't get mad at Jesus for putting the clay on his eyes.
He didn't scoff at Jesus' ridiculous actions.
He didn't ask someone along the way to wash the clay off of his eyes.
Maybe he felt something happening and knew there would be a completed work on his eyes when they were wash in the Pool of Siloam.
I believe something began to happen when Jesus put the clay on his eyes.
I believe something continued when Jesus told the man what to do.
I believe it was a finished work with the man completed what Jesus told him to do.
How do you respond when God speaks to you?
Exodus 5:2 (NKJV) And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice...
Deuteronomy 4:30-31 (NKJV) When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice 31 (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
As I read the testimony of this man who was blind but now sees, I believe he remembered Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV) If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land. Our response when God speaks, when God touches our life is so important. One of the first revelations I remember receiving from the Lord was a picture, like a timeline. As I saw the picture, I felt within me the Lord speak, "From the moment I tell you to do something until the time you starting doing what I said, you are in disobedience." Strong word, I know. But at the time I was asking something very specific of the Lord. He needed me to respond as soon as He spoke. He needed me not to contemplate it and see if I could come up with a better solution or tweak His direction for my life. If I tweaked His word then I wasn't really obeying Him. He needed me to know how important it was for my immediate obedience.
Isaiah 1:19 holds quite a promise. Why wouldn't we obey the Lord with a promise like that? Why would we alter the Lord's word for our life when once it has been altered, we can't say it was from God? Why would we think God's direction, command, word for our life, is like someone's opinion? He knows what is best and He is working things out for our good. Therefore, we can trust God. We can trust His touch upon the place we need healed. We can trust His word, His command to go and do. We can trust He is restoring in our lives what was stolen. His touch will make us whole and our obedience to HIs command will give us power in our testimony to share with others.
Father, I thank you for all You have done in my life. I have had to learn when you You speak to respond as You say. I have learned to allow You to touch the area in my life that is wounded, weak and needs a creative miracle. I receive Your touch upon my life. I receive the work of Your hands in the creative miracle I need. I receive Your word, Your command to go and do. I will be cleansed by the love in Your voice and strengthened by the command to go. Your word gives me the strength to do as You have said. I will do as You say because I trust You. I know Your way is truth. I will go as You command in Jesus' name amen.
