John 9:6-12 (NKJV) When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” 9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eand said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” 12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
Jesus made clay.
Jesus used His saliva.
Jesus anointed the blind man's eyes.
Jesus told the blind man to go the pool of Siloam.
Jesus said to wash his eyes at the pool of Siloam.
The blind man allowed Jesus to put clay on his eyes.
The blind man received the anointing.
The blind man went to the pool of Siloam.
The blind man washed his eyes at the pool of Siloam.
The man is no longer blind.
Seems self explanatory so I wonder how many of us would allow Jesus to touch us with clay made with His spit? Remember, it will be humiliating. People will laugh. Your mind will play tricks on you, "Even this man, this Rabbi, this Jesus, is making fun of you. He can't heal you or He would have just done it. He wants you to leave so they can all have a good laugh at you." Think about the challenges this blind man would have to overcome in his mind. Think about how he would have to keep his faith focused on the anointing, focused on the voice, the command. We are this side of the miracle, but what if it was you? What if you had been blind, made fun of, voices of doubt and rejection plaguing your mind day and night? Would you allow yourself to be humiliated on more time? Keep in mind, we are this side of the miracle. We know what will happen when the man follows the command. But if you were in the blind man's shoes, you wouldn't know if the humiliation is going to lead to your healing. Could you put yourself in the man's shoes with what you face today? What keeps you from being whole, living the abundant life Jesus died and rose again to give you? Are you afraid Jesus will make fun of you? Humiliate you? Call you out in front of a crowd? Send you away not knowing if what you desire will happen? Do you battle in your mind why Jesus won't heal you right now?
Think of the most humiliating thing that could happen to you. Think of it happening in front of everyone. Would you be able to go through the humiliation to receive your healing? Humiliation is a powerful prison. Some people are pretty sure God is real and Christ came to earth to save them from their sin but on the chance it isn't real they don't want to be thought of as naive, stupid or weak for asking Jesus to be their Lord and Savior. People will reject Salvation because they do not want to be humiliated by the people of the world.
I'm not asking you what has been the most humiliating thing that has happened to you in public, I am asking what do you fear the most? What if that humiliation was the only way to get your miracle?
I do not believe Jesus was trying to humiliate this blind man. However, I believe the blind man had to face the torturing thoughts that "seemed" like Jesus was causing great humiliation, just like so many others had. What if Jesus were to position you in the very area you have seen defeat again and again, humiliation over and over, only to make that your shining moment, the obstacle you had to overcome in order to receive your miracle?
Father, I ask for courage to stand before You. No matter how You choose, I pray I would stand strong in my faith for my miracle. I pray I would trust You completely. I do not want to return to the place of disappointment, humiliation and rejection but I see where You would want to make that a place of victory. A place where I completely trusted You through the pain, to the depth of my soul, and the tormenting thoughts in my mind. I yield to You. You know what is best. I pray for the time lost to be redeemed. I pray for the miracle to restore what has been stolen from me. I pray for courage to stand before You and wait for Your touch. I pray I would stand receiving Your anointing. I pray I would hear Your voice and follow exactly what You say in Jesus' name amen.
