Warriors Arise: August 22, 2021
John 9:6-12 (NKJV) When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing. 8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?” 9 Some said, “This is he.” Others said, “He is like him.” He said, “I am he.” 10 Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eand said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed, and I received sight.” 12 Then they said to him, “Where is He?” He said, “I do not know.”
The older the person, when the Lord comes knocking, the more they seem to have to deal with thoughts of being tricked because they are afraid to appear stupid or humiliated for needing help. On the contrary, because of Salvation we have the mind of Christ and in our weakness He is strong.
1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV) For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV) And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
I do not believe Jesus was trying to humiliate this blind man. However, I believe the blind man had to face the torturing thoughts that it "seemed like" Jesus was causing great humiliation. He had been teased relentlessly over the years. Could Jesus be just another who is wanting to laugh at his expense?
There are times when Jesus takes us to the very place of our deepest hurt and touches that particular pain and devastation. Others had made fun this blind man, slinging mud, calling out jokes, calling him to follow only to lead him to trip into a mud puddle; but Jesus meets him right where the pain would generally begin. This time, the place of pain became the very place Jesus provided the miracle.
What if Jesus were to position you in the very area you have seen defeat again and again, humiliation over and over, only to make that your shining moment, the obstacle you had to overcome to receive your miracle?
It "seemed like" Jesus was no different than all the rest. The blind man was minding his own business but then one of the disciples had to ask, "Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he is blind?" The blind man wasn't calling out to Jesus. He wasn't asking a friend to position him before Jesus. It didn't matter. Obviously, it was this man's time to be restored and made whole body, soul, and spirit. But Jesus, standing before the blind man doesn't say, "Be healed and sin no more." Because his blindness was not about his sin nor his parent's. Jesus didn't say, "Your faith has made you well." Because this man did not push through the crowd and seek Jesus for his healing. Jesus did not touch the man's eyes and restore his sight. Jesus took this man to the depth of his pain, the humiliation and torment, and covered his eyes with clay and spit. Nothing changed. Nothing happened. He was not yet in the right place for His miracle to be made complete.
His miracle was made complete when he went and washed in the pool of Siloam. The man could have said it was the water that healed him but he didn't. He knew the healing came from this man called Jesus.
Jesus healed this man in his soul when He put the clay with spit on his eyes. He went to the depth of his pain, trauma and humiliation and restored honor to this man.
Jesus healed this man in his spirit when He anointed him and gave him a a "go" command.
Jesus healed this man in his body when he washed his eyes in the pool of Siloam.
The order is so important. People can get healed physically and continue to live in the trauma of their soul. But once they are physically healed, they do not realize they need healing in their soul as well as their spirit. There are some who need to be healed in their soul before they can receive the healing in their body. There are some who need healing in their spirit, obeying what God has told them to do, to receive healing in their body.
How many of us have been delivered from a terrible situation, maybe even a healing only to be tormented with losing that healing or thinking the traumatic situation may come back? This generally occurs becuase we were not healed in our soul and in our spirit? We didn't get victory over the defeat of our soul, the humiliation, what was lost during that devastating time. We didn't defeat the enemy who tore through the spirit within us; therefore, we are not sure we trust God. When we do not trust God we will not obey.
The blind man received victory in his soul, and then his spirit which resulted in his physical healing.
2 Corinthians 2:14-15 (NKJV) Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. 15 For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
When you remember the entire testimony of this man who once was blind but now sees, this verse speaks of him. Jesus led him in triumph and the fragrance of Christ was released as he testified to his neighbors and those who knew him before his healing. He even releases the fragrance of Christ when he is brought into the temple to be questions. He testifies boldly of the miracle Jesus did in his life. This man was made whole from the inside out.
Father, I position myself before You. I have seen You intervene in my life. You have restored what was lost. You have healed me from the trauma and devastation. You have physically healed my body and I praise You for Your touch. I ask for You to search me. If I need healing in my soul I ask You to come and restore my soul, mind, will and emotions. I want them sanctified and purified by Your love. I ask for You to touch my spirit. I want to live each day in complete, ready obedience to Your Word. I ask for You to guide my steps and for Your power to be released to others that they may receive their healing body, soul and spirit in Jesus' name amen.
