John 9:18-20 (NKJV) But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight. 19 And they asked them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” 20 His parents answered them and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
Who knew the touch of God could put you in such a predicament? And, yet, it still happens today. People are touched my God; healed, given wisdom and understanding, delivered from the demonic, and restored in their relationships. Neighbors do not know what to do with you so they take you to someone else. Someone they think has authority to explain what happened. They want someone else to verify what has happened. No one wants to verify something they didn't see with their eyes.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) For we walk by faith, not by sight.
If you have seen something done then it doesn't take faith to believe it. You only have to allow your mind to believe what your eyes saw. I shared a few days ago when something unbelievable happens before our eyes we have to allow our mind to wrap around the truth of what we have seen so we believe it. However, none of these people saw the blind man healed. They only saw him after he was healed. Even if they saw Jesus put the clay with spit on the man's eyes and anoint him, the blind man did not walk away seeing. Remember, the blind man didn't see until he wash in the pool of Siloam. No one, that we know of, was with the blind man from the point of Jesus touching his eyes to the man washing his eyes. Since he was blind, I would have though there would have been a person who guided him to the pool of Siloam but there is none recorded.
The proof of God's touch upon a blind man is right in front of them. The neighbors know this man was blind and now sees. The parents know this is their son that was born blind and now he sees. Why does it matter if they were there when the man received his sight? Is it really about who to blame? Because it should be about who we will worship and give glory.
The man can't explain how it happened, only that it happened. You would think would be enough. But, it isn't. So the parents were brought in. The parents validate that this is their son and he was blind. They were not there when Jesus touched their son with the clay and spit. They were not there when Jesus anointed their son. They were not there with Jesus told their son to go wash in the pool of Siloam.
Could you imagine being this man's parents. I don't know that you could stop me from crying tears of joy, shouting, "Hallelujah! Praise be too God!" or taking my son's hands and dancing around wildly! This is a miracle! How many nights did the mother lay awake at night hoping for God to heal her son before the sun came up the next morning? How many days had the father wished he could teach his son his trade? And now, their son can see but they are in such fear there is no celebration. The miracle has happened. God has touched their son. But they are overcome with fear. Fear has a way of paralyzing us. The parents feared the judgment of the Pharisees. They feared they would be cast out of the temple. But in a short while, when Jesus breathed His final breath, God would rip the veil and all people would be able to enter into a holy relationship with Him.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)
The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Don't you know God was rejoicing over this man with singing! In some translations is says God is leaping for joy over you. You may receive a touch from God and no one believes you. It could be as clear as no longer being blind. People do not know what to do with the miraculous. When God does a miracle in your presence or one that you have seen the affects of God's touch upon someone's life, do you believe? Do you rejoice with them? Do you praise God, give God glory, and join in the celebration and singing?
What does it matter whether someone else believes in God's touch upon your life? It can steal what God has done, steals from our worship of God, and takes our testimony. We do not testify because no one believes us. It that the criteria for testifying? Whether someone will believe you or not? No. We testify to give glory, honor, and praise to God. We testify to stir up faith in others to believe for their miracle. We testify to open up the heavens for God to do it again, to touch the area in their life that needs a miracle.
Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
We have a responsibility to testify of what God has done in our lives. We are not to love our lives, the people group we are apart of, the church we are in, nor the family we were born into more than our love for God. The man who was healed will be standing alone, answering for himself. No one else was with him; therefore, they cannot answer how he was healed. But do you remember how this all started? The disciples were asking Jesus who sinned; this man or his parents, that he was born blind. Jesus responds, "Neither, it is for God would be glorified." What Jesus did for this man positioned him give opportunity for his neighbors, the Pharisees, and his parents to give glory to God. Everyone has a choice. We can be concerned about things that really do not matter or we can accept what has happened and give God glory. The things of God are a mystery. But surely, we can identify what is of God.
John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Father, You reach down from heaven and touch Your people every day. It is Your choice as to who gets healed and who remains as they are. We are to pray, believing in Your love and testifying of Your goodness. We are to celebrate with You for all that You have done, are doing, and are about to do. We are to sing praises to You. We are to come along side of those You are healing, restoring, giving wisdom and understanding, and mending relationships and celebrate. I pray my heart is ready to believe the miracles others give testimony of, my eyes are ready to see the wondrous act You have done in their life, and my ears are are ready to hear testimony of Your miraculous works. You are amazing! There is no other who loves us so completely as You. I will praise You and celebrate in all You have done in Jesus' name amen.
