Luke 8:40-45 (NKJV) So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. 41 And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying.
But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. 43 Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. 45 And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?”
When the unclean touches the clean, the unclean becomes clean. How is that even possible? Have your ever seen something dirty touch something clean and the dirty becomes clean? It isn't impossible...unless it is God.
Matthew 19:23-26 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
This woman is unclean because of her flow of blood according to Leviticus 15:19-33. Any person who even sat where she had been was considered unclean. This women touched Jesus' clothing. Instead of being made unclean, she is healed. She, the one considered impure, unholy, unclean is immediately made well, purified, holy, and clean when she touches the holiness, purity, and the One who is clean.
There is nothing in Scripture that suggest this woman had done anything wrong, nothing to tell us she had done some horrible sin to have this issue of blood for the past 12 years. What we do know is that Jesus, the Son of God, makes anything possible. This woman had the faith to believe if she touched His garment she would be made well. And she was, immediately the flow of blood stopped. She was unclean and instead of making Jesus unclean, He made her clean. Once they identify what happened and who it was, the synagogue ruler doesn't even address the issue that Jesus is unclean because she touched Him. He was not make unclean by her touch, her touch of the clean made her clean.
Father, I am so thankful that you are ' able to come to You in my dirtiness. When I sin and turn to You I am made clean again. You receive me, cleanse me and restore my being. I come to You and lay myself before You. I reach out and lay hold of Your garment. You are my healer, You make me clean, You restore what the enemy has stolen from me. You lift me up and redeem the time that has been taken from me. You are my source of strength. In You I put my trust. I do not intentionally plan to sin, but I am thankful that You cleanse me of all my iniquity and make me clean in Jesus' name amen.
