The Touch of God, part 6

Warriors Arise: July 20, 2021

Isaiah 6:1-7 (NKJV) In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” 4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.” 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”

I gotta ask, would you let him do it? Would you let the angel touch your mouth with the burning coal? I don't care how convicted you are by the declaration of the angels, would you allow the angel who is approaching you to touch your lips with the coal?

It is an important question to ask, because I believe God opens up heaven or at least our minds to see He really is in control. He really is not shaking on His throne saying, "What are we gong to do now that ..... has happened?" I will never forget a moment, years ago, when I was sharing all that was going on in my life with my oldest brother. I was stressed out and about to pop! I was wound up so tight that if a feather landed on me I might have shattered into a million pieces. It definitely wouldn't have taken a pin to pop me. I got done sharing and my brother said in his all wise and reasoning tone, "Veridee, do you think God is shaking on His throne right now over what you have just shared?"

You know how in the older movies when a woman would be talking all crazy, someone came up, and slapped them in the face? My brother didn't lay a hand on me. He has a heart of gold and a tone of reason. He can say things firmly to get you to shift from a wayward thinking to reason. The shift was real. I sat there, stunned. Honestly, I didn't want it to be so. But I was so worked up, that I didn't even think about what God would be doing or if He was doing anything. But my bother's words were so pure, heartfelt and honest. God is working all things together for my good. He is not in heaven on His throne fretting over what to do with the situation I faced. He already had an answer, He was calm, collected and in control. I just had to trust and He would work things out in His timing. There was more in me. I didn't have to be the one to fix the problem. I had to be the one who trusted God and moved when He opened the door and join Him when He wanted my involvement. Once my brother said, "Veridee, do you think God is shaking on His throne over this?" the hopelessness in my mind completely stopped. His words were similar to Isaiah being invited to see God in heaven, not shaken by the death of Uzziah. Hearing the angels declare the whole earth is filled with His glory.

I do not know Isaiah's sense of hopelessness prior to having his look into heaven. I know He is completely undone. His mind is stunned, maybe even at a stand still as He sees heaven, hears God being praised and the declaration that His glory is over the whole earth. His glory didn't stop at the borders of Israel. His glory was over the whole earth. As his mind wraps around what he is seeing and hearing, he is convicted by his own thoughts toward God. It would seem that his mind then tries to think of anyone who was seeing God in control, receiving the glory, the hope that was active in the whole earth. It would appear, he can't think of anyone because he says, “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips.

This is why he didn't flinch when the angel comes to him with the hot coal. This is why he allows the angel to touch his lips with the fiery coal. He knows he is unclean. He knows he was just as uncertain of God's plan as everyone else in the land. He is a prophet, and humbled to know, he is not speaking as if he trusted God was still in control. As a prophet, who speaks on behalf of God, he was willing to be first to have the sin of his mouth purged by the heat of the coal. Prior to this, he did not join the angels as they declared the wondrous acts of God. He knew he didn't only need wear the title of prophet, but he needed to be the prophet. He needed to be in line, with his faith in God, knowing He would not abandon His people. He needed to declare God's plan to the people. He needed to be convicted from within. He could not just be saying something his mind, heart, soul and strength didn't believe. God settled the matter and invited Isaiah into heaven.

Have you allowed God to touch your lips with the fiery coals of truth, love and purpose? God had a purpose for Isaiah to fulfill. God needed Isaiah to be His prophet not just in title but with all of his heart, mind, soul and strength. God loved Isaiah so much that He would not allow him to continue thinking, even speaking in distress of not knowing God was still in control, even though King Uzziah was dead. God would not allow Isaiah to remain in self-pity consuming his thoughts and poisoning the prophet messages he was to deliver. God's love invited Isaiah to see the truth and be convicted by the words of his mouth. God revealed the truth without saying a word. Isaiah saw the Lord high and lifted up, seated on His throne. Isaiah heard the declaration of the angels and realized his thinking was not line up with God's, not even the angels. God revealed the truth that Isaiah needed to have his words cleansed by the fire of the coal. God didn't lecture Isaiah, He revealed his sin in order for Isaiah to step into the fullness of his calling as God's prophet.

Your gifting may not be as a prophet of God in the land; however, we are all called to speak the truth in love. We are all called to give testimony to what God has done inner life and what we have seen Him do in others. We are all called to speak in faith, knowing God is not shaking on His throne by what is going on in our life. God is still releasing His glory over all the earth. God has not abandoned us to the torment of this life. God has made a way for us to be activated and a pure representative of all that He is.

Have you allowed your mouth to be purged of sin so the words that flow from your mouth to align with who God is, what God is doing, and what He has called you to do?

Father, this can be difficult. I need courage to ask for You to come and cleanse my lips. I know that means You will have to reveal my thoughts that do not line up with Your Word. You will have to show me when I have not spoken the truth about You and believed the worst about You. I have not believed You would come and make a way out of the difficult, dramatic situations in my life. I have not trusted You to come and rescue me. I have not seen the way out because I would not look to You. I figured You brought me to this situation so I had to get myself out, but that isn't Biblical. You walk with me through the valley of the shadow of death, I am to fear not evil, and You get me through to the other side. You do not lead me to the valley of the shadow of death, you lead me through it! Just like Isaiah, when the realization of sin through my words is exposed, I will be undone. I want my words to be filled with faith in You. You will do what You have promised. You will not leave me nor forsake me. You will pick me up out of the mire and place my feet on high ground. You will make a way when there is no way. I will declare the greatness of Your love. I will look to You in times of trial and tribulation. I will overcome the things of this world because You are with me, because You lead and guide me, because You are my God and there is no other. I will trust You in every circumstance in Jesus' name amen.
