The Touch of God, part 7

Warriors Arise: July 21, 2021

Isaiah 6:6-8 (NKJV) Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.” 8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

What did the touch from God do to Isaiah? He heard the Lord and responded immediately. His response, "Here am I!" makes me think he is jumping up and down for the Lord to see him. Or I can see him stretching his hand so high like a kid in class who knows he has the right answer and wants to be chosen. "Oo, oo, pick me, pick me!"

It is as if Isaiah is getting the opportunity to hear God, Jesus and Holy Spirit discuss their plans. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Isaiah is right there and believes he is the solution to their need.

Isaiah doesn't even wait for them to call his name. It doesn't even say they looked at him, so since the can't see him jumping up and down, waving his hand in the air. He can't control himself any longer so he shouts. Can you believe that he shouts to the Lord? There is an explanation point. Maybe he didn't shout, he wasn't yelling; however, he wanted to be heard and chosen.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord. It doesn't say the Lord was speaking to him so He might have been speaking to Jesus or Holy Spirit or both. Maybe the Lord was thinking out loud. We really don't know, but picture the scene in your mind. See the exclamation point. See the uncontrolled response by Isaiah. He doesn't stop with "Here am I!" He doesn't just want to be seen. He wants to be the answer to what the Lord needs. He wants to be the one, the man, the representative of heaven, the ambassador of the Lord to the people on earth. His eyes have been opened to seeing his vision of the Lord being high and lifted up, seated on His throne, secure in what has happened. His mind, thoughts of dismay, have been replaced by the truth of God's ability and awareness as well as God's love. He is not abandoning His people in their time of distress. The fiery coal has touched his lips and he has been forgiven the faithless, hopeless words he has spoken. Sin had been purged. He has been made pure.

Isaiah went through a process before he could be "the one" God could use to direct His people. Isaiah had to recognize his error. Things were not as bad as they seemed. God was not shaking on His throne. God had a plan of redemption and having the people's heart turned toward Him. It all began with one. It began with Isaiah. He was willing to be changed by the touch of God. Then he was ready to step into the fullness of his calling as a prophet of God to the people of the land. He wholeheartedly jumped in with two feet! "Here I am! Send me."

This is not:

Well, I need to pray about that God. Or

I'm not sure if people will accept me. Or

Isn't there someone else? Or

I'm not sure if I even want to be a prophet anymore. Or

I'm getting too old. They don't listen to me. Send someone younger. Or

I was really hoping You would have something else for me to do. Or

Can't I just give money? Or

Nope, none of that. Isaiah had been touched by God, sin had been purged from him, and he was ready to serve God in whatever capacity was available. Because of his touch from God, he was a changed man. He would not allow his life to remain the same. He would embrace the change. We know this by reading the rest of Isaiah, but it all started because he fully embraced the touch of God.

When were you last touched by God? Did you embrace the change? Did you receive your cleansing, healing, a sound mind and return to your former way of living? A touch from God is to prepare us for what God has next. There was so much more than Isaiah getting rid of his sin. It was to get him ready for what God wanted done. Isaiah was the answer to the problem God saw. Do you realize you have been chosen? You have been touched by God. God has heard the desires of your heart and is working things out for you. He is positioning you for what He sees needs to be done next. Embrace the touch from God and then listen.

Father, You are amazing! You selected Isaiah because You knew once he saw the error of his way he would embrace the "what next." He received the fiery coal touching his lips and was purged of his sin. I pray I am ready for You to show me You are steady and securely on Your throne. I pray I am ready to be convicted of any area that is keeping me from fulfilling what You have for me to do. I want to be "the one" to take my place and live in the fullness of what You have called me to do. I want to be passionate and have a resolve to serve You with all my mind, heart, soul and strength. You are my God and there is no other. Here am I. Send me in Jesus' name amen.
