The Touch of God, part 82

Warriors Arise: October 4, 2021

Matthew 8:1-3 (NKJV) When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

When Jesus says, "be cleansed" it means, according to Strong's: katharizō; from 2513; to cleanse (literally or figuratively): — (make) clean(-se), purge, purify.

When Matthew records, "his leprosy was cleansed it means, according to Strong's:

katharizō; from 2513; to cleanse (literally or figuratively): — (make) clean(-se), purge, purify.

Literally the leprosy was gone from the leper. when Jesus said "I am willing; be cleansed" the leper had no evidence of the leprosy on his personhood. The evidence of the healing manifested right before their eyes. That is amazing. That is God.

When we think of being cleansed in the figurative sense, what does that mean? Figuratively means metaphorically. A metaphor is a figure of speech that, for rhetorical effect, directly refers to one thing by mentioning another. Therefore, it is more than Jesus bringing healing from the leprosy but body, soul and spirit cleansing. Not only was this man's body cleansed from the leprosy but also his soul; mind, will and emotions. So many times when we are plagued with a sickness the enemy wages a war in our minds.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NKJV) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Jesus gave this man a cleansing in his mind. From this point forward this man will be responsible for what he allows his mind to believe. He will have to wage war against the enemy who caused the leprosy and messed with his mind, caused him to be isolated from his family and friends, and derailed his purpose. As a leper, he could have no longer done what God had gifted him to do.

When Jesus says, "I am will; be cleansed" This man was cleansed on the outside, all leprosy was gone and his flesh was restored. However, he was also cleansed in places they could not see. He was cleansed in his mind and spirit. He was taken from the muck and mire and placed on high ground. This man was cleaned on the outside and everyone saw his new flesh, but what they didn't see was the cleaning those words did on the inside of the man. According to Phil 1:6, when God starts working on our behalf, He will complete it. We may see the outward effects of God working in someone's life, however, we should never underestimate what God has done on the inside. God will complete what He started.

Father, I ask for You to come and bring life to my body. I ask for You to cleanse me inside and out. I ask for Your lovingkindness to remove the barriers that are keeping me from my destiny, living the abundant life Jesus gave me. I position myself before You, because I know You can heal me on the outside; but I delight in knowing You will do a complete work in me. You will restore my mind, redeem my calling, and set my feet upon the path of righteousness. I praise You now and I will praise You for Your work in me. I praise Your love that flows from heaven touching every part of my life. I worship You for You are my God and there is no other, in Jesus' name amen.
