The Touch of God, part 91

Warriors Arise: October 13, 2021

Matthew 9:27-30 (NKJV) When Jesus departed from there, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” 28 And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith let it be to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened.

How far would you go to be touched by God? Seriously, answer the question. How far would you go to be touched by God? There is no way you can tell me this was easy for these two blind me. These two blind men most likely heard of the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' garment and was healed. They heard Jesus was going to Jairus' house. Somehow they made it. Somehow they found their way to Jairus' house. How many people did they ask? How many people didn't know where Jairus lived? How many times did people mock these two blind men? There is no indication that these men followed anyone or a throng of people looking for Jesus. Maybe there was and Matthew just didn't mention it.

How far would you go to be touched by God? With all the people they had to ask to direct them to Jairus' house, how many times do you think people laughed at them, "Why are you going there? The priest can't help you?" Or if they knew the situation, "Don't bother Jairus, his daughter is dying or had probably already died." Or, better yet, "You know he went and got that crazy man, Jesus. He is out of his mind. His daughter is dead. What can Jesus do now?"

Think of how the enemy loves to discourage you. Just because you have your heart set on finding Jesus, doesn't mean you get a free pass. I have heard too many Christians who think if it is "a God thing" then it will be an easy thing. Now, I do not believe it is always difficult, but there are times when we have to deal with three things to get to God:

  1. Our imperfections: the men were blind. They could have embraced the mentality that God made them blind so why would God heal them. It was their lot in life.

  2. Tormenting thoughts: What do I have to offer the King? Why would He want to see me, listen to me, or touch me?

  3. How others devalue us: Since I don't matter to them, why would I matter the Him?

How far would you go to be touched by God? Once touched by God the imperfections become our testimony of His demonstrative power of love. Once touched by God our heart beats to the rhythm of His love and we know joy every day, peace every minute and bask in His love. Once touched by God, our minds know the value He has placed on us, so what others think or how they respond to us doesn't define our value.

For the most part, in what I see throughout Scripture, the God thing is not the easy thing until You are willing to pursue it. Once you resolve you will pursue the God thing, like these two blind men not allowing their circumstances to hold them back, not allowing the discouragement of the people stop them and not receive rejection from Jesus when He didn't answer their call, the difficult task doesn't matter because your focus has changed. This was not easy for these two blind men. This was a difficult task they undertook, but they didn't give up. Jesus came out of Jairus' house and went into another. These two blind me didn't stop outside the house this time. They went in.

How far would you go to be touched by God?

Father, You are worth the pursuit. Your touch is worth what I have to go through to get to You. My handicap, my fears and the discouraging words spoken to me, are no longer going to hold me back. I will pursue You. The obstacle in my life will no longer be my excuse. I will overcome my fears and find You. I will remove the chains of discouraging words people have put on me that have held me in bondage. I will seek You and find You. I will pursue You and be touched by You in Jesus' name amen.
