The Touch of God, part 97

Warriors Arise: October 19, 2021

Luke 7:11-17 (NKJV) Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd. 12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother. 16 Then fear came upon all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has visited His people.” 17 And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all the surrounding region.

What do you think of that? Maybe you have read it a number of times, but I want you to place yourself there. Maybe you are in the procession or one carrying the coffin or you stopped so they could pass by. The mother is weeping. She has lost her son. Jesus is approaching the city gate and He can't contain the compassion He is feeling toward this mother, the one who has lost her son.

I wonder if Jesus was moved with compassion, because He knew His mother would be experiencing this same pain when it came His time to turn His face toward Jerusalem and hang on the cross for our sins. There is something different that happens when Jesus is moved with compassion. He is motivated from within, not just His heart, but there seems to be a connection of His purpose.

Matthew 9:35-38 (NKJV) Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

In Matthew, Jesus is already doing the miraculous when He is moved with compassion. He observes they need a shepherd. Jesus could have walked the earth for decades healing every sickness and every disease, casting out demons, cleansing the lepers and raising the dead but He had a higher purpose. He was sent to earth to overcome death and hell, to be our redeemer, to be our sacrifice for our sins; so that we could be in relationship with God . It is so that we could operate in the same power He demonstrated.

When Jesus reached the city gate and saw His mother weeping for the loss of her son, He is moved with compassion. He is motivated to do something on her behalf. It is a sign of what is to come for Himself. His mother would be weep when His time came. Today, He could return this boy to his mother. He will have to die and His mother will be weeping too. But today, being moved with compassion and touching the coffin, He could bring life back to this boy and healing to his mother.

Have you felt like your hopes and dreams were dead? Some may say, "Two nails short of being 6 feet under?" What if Jesus touched your coffin, the carrier of your dreams before they were gone forever? Have you ever experienced having a dream resurrected? Maybe you you cannot see how they will ever come to pass and so hope is one heartbeat away. You need a resurrection in your dreams, in your purpose to live again. We were created to purpose. God put a dream inside of us. He saw how we would reach the lives of others, stir up the gifts and talents within each other and speaks words of blessing that called forth destiny. Do you need God to touch your coffin? Do you need Him to speak life into You? Your dreams? Your purpose? Your destiny? Others need to you live and fulfill what God has gifted you to do. Others need you to live and breathe and fulfill your destiny. Others, like this mother, desire to see you fulfill your the potential. They see what you may not. You maybe had the wind knocked out of you, disappointment has overtaken you, things took longer than you thought, discouragement is caused confusion but God sees those who know your potential and reaches up to touch the coffin you have laid into cause your heart to beat again with purpose and destiny.

Father, I ask for You to resurrect dreams that have died. I ask for You to reach in and touch the coffin has stolen life from me. I pray Your touch would revive me. I want to live and fulfill the destiny You dreams I would achieve. I want to have life abundantly and live the fulness of Your purpose for my life. There is more for me to do to advance Your kingdom. There is more for me to do to call forth life in others and encourage each one to fulfill their calling. I pray You would revive me with Your touch in Jesus' name amen.
