There is a Road

Warriors Arise: January 10, 2022

Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)

Behold, I will do a new thing,

Now it shall spring forth;

Shall you not know it?

I will even make a road in the wilderness

And rivers in the desert.

Today, being the 10th, I'm reminded of the 10 year photo challenge so many have participated in on FB. It has been pretty neat to see what people looked like 10 years ago. I was reminded of what took place 10 years ago in my own life. My 5th and final newborn would have been 6 weeks old. We named her Charis Grace, double grace, 5 + 5. I wanted to name her Hannah Charis Grace but Scott wouldn't have it. He did not want her to be named Hannah Hand. May, the previous year, I woke up at 5:55am, three days in a row. I remember asking God, "What is going on?" In that moment, instantly, I knew. I was pregnant. I was going to need a lot of grace becoming a mom of five and I knew it. Double grace here she comes. I seem to blunder through parenting and any additional help God wants to provide I am open to receive.

I love each and every one of my children. My love is devoted and intentional. I do not love them the same way, because they each receive love differently, but I do love them each with the same purpose, tenderness, discipline and grace. I am continually reminded that I am the one who needs a significant amount of grace. Charis is a wonderful bundle of delight, adventure, laughter and courage. When we were given Charis, God was doing a new thing and I would need a lot of grace. Ten years ago I felt like I was wandering in a wilderness without a road. I needed to know God was doing a new thing in me and preparing me for a road I couldn't see.

My son made an observation when we were driving through the mountains a week ago. After at least an hour weaving back and forth, we finally went through two tunnels. He said, "Why does the road weave around when they could have made it shorter by going through the mountain?" I shared about the stability of the rock determines whether they can cut through the mountain. We got to eastern United States and the roads continued to weave with no purpose. "Why are the roads winding back and forth yet there aren't any mountains?"

Now isn't that the million dollar question. Why are the roads not straight? Think about when you are out hiking. We might have an intended destination; however, no matter how hard we try to stick to the straight path, we generally take the path of least resistance. The path of least resistance tends to take longer and is definitely not a straight line. The path of least resistance will generally have an indication that others have walked this way as well. Paths turn to roads and roads weave back and forth in conjunction with the path of least resistance.

I am not sure the amount of grace you are needing for today, but I do know God says, "I will even make a road in the wilderness." As we start our new year, does this year seem like unchartered land? Do you feel like you are placed in a wilderness with no path to follow? Are you sure the path you are on is the one God has made or have you gotten off the path because you chose the path of least resistance?

God will not leave us in the wilderness. He will lead us through the wilderness on the road He has made. This is evident in what He has done in the last ten years of my life. It doesn't matter how long I will be in the wilderness, only that I walk the road He has made.

Today, Lydia is walking a path God has put before her. It will be a wilderness, but she will find God's path and walk it. She will begin working at the Iowa State Capital as a page.

Welcome to a new year where God will show you the path to walk. I believe with my whole heart God is making a path and revealing it to His people who have been in a wilderness. There will now be a path, not just a path but a road for those who are ready, they will see it and get in alignment with what God is doing in their lives and how He is taking them. God's grace upon grace is available right now. Be ready for the road he has laid before you.

Father, thank You for grace. Thank you for grace upon grace in my life. I trust You. I have felt like our world has been thrown into a wilderness since COVID was released. For two years we have prayed for Your healing to be released, for Your power to squelch this wicked virus. I am asking for You to make a road for us to get out of this wilderness pit. I pray specifically, that while we are still here You will strengthen the immune system of Your people to withstand the attack of this virus. I ask for Your lovingkindness to be poured out into each of Your people. I pray the world would know, we are untouched like the plagues of Egypt in Jesus' name. I pray for those who have been in a wilderness, wandering without purpose to lift their head to see You high and lifted up. I pray they would then look at what You are doing and the road You are laying. I ask they would have the courage to leave the wilderness behind and take the road You have put before them. You extend Your grace into our lives and restore us to our purpose. Thank You! Your love is amazing! Your kindness is overwhelming and Your grace is undefeated. I will rise and walk on the road You have placed before me in Jesus' name amen.
