Time Stand Still

Luke 19:1-10 (NKJV) Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully. 7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner.” 8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; 10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

This might be scary. You wanted to see Jesus. You ran ahead so you could see Jesus. You climbed a tree so you could see Jesus. Then, pause as you hold your breath, your heart beats out of your chest, and time stands still. The moment when nothing moves as reality catches up with your anticipation. Your mind has built this up to be something important. It is why you ran. It is why you wanted to see Jesus and why you climbed the tree. Now, before you is Jesus. He came to the very place you were waiting.

Time still ticks, but for you time stands still. Nothing in this moment could have prepared you for your encounter with Jesus, the Son of God. This is the moment you will talk about for years to come. You will share it with your kids and grandkids. It is the time when Jesus came to the place where you were waiting to see Him.

Father, when these times come, it is like a time between times. It seems like it is expanded time. Everything else in my life is running full steam ahead, but when I am positioned to meet with You time slows down. I need this time. It allows my eyes to look into Yours. It opens my mind to comprehend what You are saying. It renews my strength as the eagles. It gives me courage when I feel like I can't stand any longer. The joy in my heart is restored and the peace that surpasses all understanding settles within every fiber of my being. I know when You come to that place, I am an empty vessel ready for You to pour into me. I run to position myself to be in place, in that place, where You will come by. I will be in position and ready to receive in Jesus' name amen.
