Warriors Arise: December 4, 2021
John 1:40-42 (NKJV) One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Messiah, the Christ, the anointed One has been found. People are still looking to find the Messiah. They are waiting for the promises of God to begin to develop into reality. Jesus came as the anointed One. He came to set things in motion for the promises of God to become a fulfilled reality for all people.
Studying the different names referring to Jesus helped to see more of who He is and what He did for each one of us. Messiah is the Hebrwew word for Christ, both mean the anointed One. The people were looking for someone who matched up to what the prophet declared.
Isaiah 61:1-3 (NKJV)
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
Jesus actually quotes part of this when He is in the temple.
Luke 4:16-22 (NKJV)
So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 22 So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth.
Jesus tried to tell them. He even read Scripture. Then He was so bold as to just come out and say it, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Jesus, the Messiah, came and following His baptism, He was anointed by the Spirit of God. Then He started pushing back the power of darkness and removing the grip of the enemy as He stepped into being the Messiah Isaiah prophecies about.
Preach the gospel
Proclaim liberty to the captives.
Open Prison Doors
The year of the Lord
The day of vengeance of the Lord
Comfort to those who mourn
Consoling
Replacing the ashes with beauty
Oil of Joy
Garment of praise
All of this so we could be called and known as trees of righteousness for God to be glorified. We celebrate what Messiah has done for us. We look forward to celebrating His birthday!
Father, the Messiah was prophesied and has come. Messiah fulfilled exactly what was said of Him and so much more. The reality of the words from the Old Testament in real life before them. I lift up praise to Messiah. He has made a way for darkness to flee and the light to shine. He has given joy and peace. He makes a way for me to be planted as a tree of righteousness to produce fruit and Your name to be gloried. I will celebrate the birthday of the Messiah in Jesus' name, amen.
