Warriors Arise: May 23, 2021
1 Samuel 16:2-13 (NKJV) But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.’ 3 Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; you shall anoint for Me the one I name to you.” 4 So Samuel did what the Lord said,... Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons, and invited them to the sacrifice. 6 So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord's anointed is before Him!” 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 8 So Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 9 Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” 10 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” 12 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
This was David's day. It took a while. David was out with the sheep. Then Jesse was told to get his sons prepared for the sacrifice, he didn't even send for David to join them. There are times when your parents do not recognize the call of God on your life. I wouldn't say they ignore it intentionally. Jesse was pretty concerned with the prophet shows up. Samuel had not shown himself to be a war-like, trouble-causing prophet. However, when he shows up as Jesse's house he asked in the presence of the elders of the town, "Do you come in peace." This question would imply Jesse and the elders were suspicious of something. His mind could have been more focused on what the prophet was going to do that what the prophet had told him to do.
As a parent of five children, there are time when I am distracted by what is going on in front of me that I do not fulfill what I have been asked to do. I am distracted by my thoughts, trying to figure the situation out, that I don't make sure all of my children are present or that I have all my work ready. Jesse, knowing something is about to happen but now knowing exactly what doesn't have all of his sons with him. David is out with the sheep while the rest of his brother's have sanctified themselves and are being consecrated by the prophet.
Samuel thinking surely one of these boys, men is god's man, proceeds to look at each one and listen to God. But God tells him none of these sons of Jesse are the one he is there to anoint. Samuel is at a loss until he speaks with Jesse.
1 Samuel 16:10-11 Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.” 12 So he sent and brought him in.
Our responsibility is to remain faithful to the task at hand, what our father has left to our care and fulfill it to the best of our ability.
Luke 16:10(NKJV) He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much;...
David is faithful with the sheep he has been left to tend. When you are the one God is looking for, He will set things in motion for You to be found, anointed, and commissioned to do what He has put in You to achieve.
1 Samuel 16:12-13 So he sent and brought him in...And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.
God will find and anoint you for what He has called you to do. When reading about David you learn nothing changed in his current position. He returned to tend the sheep. However, what did change is that he lived from that day forward with the Spirit of the Lord upon him. When you recognize this, you understand how he was so passionate in the next recorded event in his life.
Father, You are amazing. When it is time for us to see what the future holds, You make sure we know You are setting things in motion to accomplish those things. You remove the obstacles in the way. You send the right people into our lives to position us to achieve the call upon our life. You lift us up and position us in Your plan. You will not allow another to keep us from our destiny. You will not let another take our place. You will make sure that even if we have been overlooked or forgotten, we will not be left behind. You will send for us. You will sanctify us for the work You have set aside for us to accomplish. You will consecrate us for the purpose You have placed within. I will honor You with my life. I will set aside time with You and hear Your voice. I will know when You anoint my head with oil. I will walk in perfect alignment for the fulfillment of the design You have placed inside of me. You will not allow someone else to take my place. You will not let other's overlook the call You have on my life in Jesus' name amen.
